United States religious leaders push near term world peace effort
Secretary Morford of the United States Christian Council for Democracy calls for constant work to build peace, mobilize public opinion, and church leadership. President Truman, a Baptist, is noted as religious and linked to the Episcopal Church via his wife. Missions to Christian Teachers aim to evangelize Sunday schools and reach unchurched youth, while Protestant leaders warn against peace built on vengeance or imperialism. Dr. Goheen cites Christian medical contributions in India and plans for postwar Arabic Christian literature distributed through Cairo, Jerusalem, Beirut, and related presses.

Texas Legislature approves centennial observance plan
The Forty-Ninth Texas Legislature backs a concurrent resolution authorizing a Texas Centennial of Statehood observance. The Texas Centennial Commission gains governor signature and will guide two phases: a revival of Texas and U.S. history and the revitalization of Texas agriculture and rural life. Every county may plan its own program with local leadership and county commissions, funded without state appropriation. Mr. Karl Hoblitzelle will continue leading the commission. Meanwhile, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Metzger and three sons of La Grange, Texas, are vacationing with his parents in nearby town.
