Funeral services were held Sunday for R D Inscore who died Friday evening at 6 30 at his home in Harper after several months of failing health He was born September 14 1869 in North Carolina and died May 18 1945 at age 75 8 4 He was married to Lizzie Hagemier in Blanco County in 1893 and they resided in Harper 15 years He leaves a widow three children Gertie Fly Markworth Arthur J Inscore and Adolph predeceased him Seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive He was a Baptist Church member since age 25 and pallbearers were Alf Lehne Belmore Roberts Willie Strackbein Lee Goff Richard Roeder and Froy Bode

H. A. Moore, Kerrville city schools superintendent, spoke at the Tejas Study Club on May 19 at Harper school. He discussed reaching a permanent peace, world citizenship, world economy, freer trade, social justice, and brotherhood, noting Dumbarton Oaks insights. Harper’s oldest resident Eliza Watkins buried at Harper

Mrs Eliza H Watkins longtime Harper Texas resident and one of the Hill Country’s oldest citizens died after a fall and injury. She would have turned 101 on June 24. She lived in Harper except for five years and had eight children 25 grandchildren 51 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at Harper Cemetery with Rev Charles Workman presiding.

Purple Heart Awarded Doss Soldier In Germany

Elroy P Gelstweidt, 20, son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Gelstweidt of Doss, is awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Germany on March 31. He joined the Army July 12, 1944, trained in Arkansas, shipped overseas January 1945, and is hospitalized in England recovering. A Medical Corps private, he was on duty when wounded by machine gun fire.

Pvt Sidney Grona Back Home After Liberation

Pvt Sidney Grona age 20 returns to his parents Mr and Mrs Otto Grona after liberation on April 16 by a Scottish division from German prison Stalag 11B. He had been listed missing in action since March 10 and his story recounts a near miss in captivity.
