Purple Heart Awarded Doss Soldier In Germany
Elroy P Gelstweidt, 20, son of Mr and Mrs Oscar Gelstweidt of Doss, is awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action in Germany on March 31. He joined the Army July 12, 1944, trained in Arkansas, shipped overseas January 1945, and is hospitalized in England recovering. A Medical Corps private, he was on duty when wounded by machine gun fire.
