Alfred Bernhard Final Rites Held
Funeral services were held for Alfred Bernhard who died in a Fredericksburg hospital on Monday June 5 1961 at 10 45 a m at Zion Lutheran Church. He was 73 years 5 months and 21 days old. He was born December 14 1887 in Gillespie County to Wilhelm and Elsie Grosenbacher Bernhard. He married Antonie Schoenfeld October 31 1913 in Fredericksburg, producing two children Gertrude Hartmann and Louis Bernhard. The mother died February 4 1919. Two daughters died in infancy. The couple lived in Johnson City for two years. the mother died there. Burial followed in Johnson City Cemetery due to high Pedernales River water. Surviving are the two children, a son in law Theodor Hartmann, a daughter in law Mrs Louis Bernhard, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are Adolf and Gotlieb Bernhard, Lina Arlt, Marie Tatsch, Ida Thiele, Sophie Klein all of Fredericksburg. Preceding him in death were brothers Henry and Peter Bernhard. Remains lay in state Schaetter Funeral Home through 11 30 a m Wednesday and at Zion Lutheran Church until 2 p m Rev. David Heldtke officiated. Zion Men's Choir sang. Informant listed Johnson City cemetery. Pallbearers were Stanley Hartmann, Wilhelm Arlt, Chester Bernhard, Marvin Klein, Leonard Lott and Elgin Bernhard.
