Bookmobile ends successful run and rural library dream realized

In May 1961 Texas State Library Bookmobile No. 8 completes a year of free rural service across Bandera Gillespie Kendall and Kerr Counties. It educated thousands, circulated about 45 000 books and 22 000 miles, aided by Shirley Smith and driver Mr Hudson, and spurred permanent local library services with funds and Friends chapters.

Livestock sales recap and upcoming events at Brackettville barn

A summary of recent sales shows goats averaging 10.18 on over 8,000 head with top prices for ur nannies at 20.00 and muttons at 16.25. Sheep sales for the 22nd were steady to slow with fine wool breeds firing little activity. Cattle, sheep, and goats had fair to good runs at the Friday 26th sale, with cattle and goats steady and sheep high. Upcoming events include three buck sales and noted auctions on June 7 and June 17 at Brackettville barn, with Ranchers’ Co. in Junction listing regular Friday sales.

Mrs Chester Solbrig dies after brief illness

Mrs Chester Solbrig nee Larina Louise Lang passed away at a Fredericksburg hospital on May 29 at 7 30 am aged 35 years nine months and 10 days. Funeral services were held May 30 in Beckmann Funeral Home with Rev L J Durkop officiating. Interment in City Cemetery. Survivors include her husband Chester Solbrig a daughter Vernell Solbrig and her parents Alfons and Mrs Lang. Pallbearers named Elgin Bernhard Alfons Bernhard Hilmar Klaehn Vaney Solbrig Kermit Ottmers Harvey Solbrig.

Fourth Annual Corriedale Show and Sale Tops Prices in Kerrville

A Kerrville sale sold 48 rams and 19 ewes from the Fourth Annual Corriedale Show and Sale. Top rams fetched 176 dollars each bought by R. Duke of Johnson City and A J Popp of Studiey Kan. two top ewes brought 110 dollars each bought by A M James of Cedar Valley. Average price for all animals was 62.96 dollars per animal according to County Agent Bill Retor.

Newlyweds Visit San Antonio Guests at Whitewood Home

Mr. and Mrs. Lee Olson of San Antonio visited the Fred Whitewood home on Monday. The Olsons recently wed and Mr. Olson has hunted at the Whitewood ranch.
