Airman Matthew W. Lang son of retired Air Force chief master sergeant Paul Lang of Harper has been chosen for technical training in aircraft maintenance at Sheppard AFB Texas. He completed basic training at Lackland AFB and studied Air Force mission and customs plus human relations. Lang is a 1976 Harper High School graduate.

The 88th Gillespie County Fair starts with a Friday, Aug 27 parade at 10 am featuring the Fredericksburg High School Band under Bill Brady and the Meier couple, led by the Texas National Guard Color Guard. Dedication of the William Bill Petmecky Gateway follows around 11:15 am. Entries are arriving. Gene Ledel Shows will entertain daily with rides and games. Races begin at 2 pm daily, highlighted by Marchland winning the Horse of the Year Award for Bascom Meadows of Highland, Texas.

Gillespie County to Lease New Livestock Building at Fair Grounds
County Commissioners and Fair Association sign a five year lease as the new 45 000 square foot livestock building nears completion for the 88th Gillespie County Fair to be held August 26 27 28 1976. The building funded by federal aid and county funds replaces the old pens and will be free for 4 H and FFA shows and sales. Coyotes will be controlled under a new contract with the Animal Damage Control Association paying the county 425 dollars monthly. Commissioner J Marvin Williams named to oversee the sale of two county land tracts at public auction September 1 near Barons Creek and Lower Crabapple Road.
