USDA Assistant Secretary James T. Ralph will keynote the National Lamb and Wool Industry Conference August 7-8 at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. The event, themed Income Improvement, gathers growers, textile makers and meat packers for discussions on marketing orders integration and quality incentives.
Mrs. Eccle Jackson of Houston spent the past week visiting Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Eckerle. Weekend visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Rosse of Kingsville. Mr. and Mrs. C. Basil Jordan of Dallas visited Mrs. Hilda Sageser last Saturday.
Lee A. Schmidt, Gillespie county rancher and farmer, named to the Farmers Home Administration county committee for Blanco Gillespie and Llano counties for three years starting July 1. He succeeds Victor A. Wendel joined by Richard T. Laurence and Otto W. Schumann, local FHA credits and technical assistance to farm families in the region.
The Gillespie County Soil Conservation District notes summer legume cover crops such as peas and Hubbam clover grown by farmers like David Beyer east of Fredericksburg. Beyer uses a chisel plow and straw mulch to improve water penetration and reduce erosion. District plans include field terraces, Hill Country Association meeting in Boerne on July 30, and a July 31 meeting for former supervisors at the Agriculture Building. Youth conservation books will be distributed to 4-H and scouts. Charles Schmidt increases range deferment during summer rains to build pastures and improve winter forage with equal-divided pastures and watering facilities. District cooperators Brand Feller Otto Staudt and Robert Zenner work on Diversion projects near White Oak.
Gar fishing is gaining popularity as an in between pastime for bass fishermen. The Texas Game and Fish Commission official says anglers discover value in longnose and alligator gars as a game species alongside carp. The hobby provides recreation and helps balance fish populations.

The Federal Land Bank of Kerrville held its annual membership meeting in Kerrville's Municipal Auditorium on Thursday July 27. About 150 members and guests from Bandera Blanco Gillespie Kendall and Kerr Counties attended a barbecue dinner.
Harper United Presbyterian Church lists Sunday School at 9 30 a m led by Frances Floyd with John Tarr as pianist. Worship at 10 30 a m conducted by supply pastor Rev C P Owens and Frances Floyd as Sunday School Superintendent.
Joe Mrosek stays in Galveston for medical attention with his daughter Darlene. The record notes visits by Miss Brad Riley to her sister Hilda Sageser at the Peter Bernhardt home and other local travel and family visits in San Antonio Pearsall Eldorado and nearby towns.
Carlos B. Parker, pastor, invites all to Bible study Wednesday at 8 PM and Sunday services. Sunday School begins 11:00 AM followed by Worship at 11:00 AM and Evangelistic Service at 7:30 PM. Everyone welcome.

Guests at Mr. and Mrs. Walter Parker’s home included B D Corkle Frank Hodges Mesd Jack Sykes W B Ladd both of Junction Schreiner Jobes and Mrs W M Keen of Harper for Mrs Keen’s birthday. Parker barbecued a Spanish kid for noon. Overnight visitors included James Bird and children of Encino staying with Mrs Nabers and Mr Nabers.
