The American Legion selects Kenneth Allen Fritz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Fritz, to attend Boys State in Austin this summer. Kenny, active in FFA, CYO, Science and Math Clubs, and on judging teams, has football, basketball letters and roles through his high school years. He thanks the Legion for the honor.
Mr and Mrs John Honig announce the engagement of their daughter Connie Kay to Lawrence Kevin Braziel son of Mr and Mrs John S Braziel of Comanche A July 10 wedding is planned at St James Lutheran Church Harper Connie is a Harper High School SWT University graduate and teaching at Harper Elementary He is a SWT graduate BBA member of Alpha Kappa Psi now a Burroughs Corp marketing account manager in Houston.
Tamra Harper daughter of Mr and Mrs Gene Harper was chosen by the Harper American Legion Auxiliary to attend Girls State from June 8 to 18 at Seguin. An active Harper High School junior with multiple honors including student council treasurer band drum majorette and Miss HHS runner up. Also features Mary Jane Kramer engagement to Timothy James Carter with June 26 wedding plans at St Anthony Catholic Church Harper events include a May 5 1976 E M Stevens PE Building dedication and Lutheran convention notes from Victoria Texas with Rev Bill Hill and the Marshalls.
The 19th annual Harper Lions Club Junior Rodeo at Harper Community Park drew strong attendance with clear skies and no rain. Winners across events include Bronco riding David Coleman Johnson City and calf roping Buzzy Bier schwabe Harper. other prizes went to Iowans and Texans, with awards to cowgirls Sheila Maner Doss and Cindy Short Bandera. A 4-H Alumni Reception is planned with June 10 as a target date and volunteers sought.
Beverly and Johnnie Oehler announce the opening of Beverly's Plaster and Woodwork Shop on Ranch Road 783 south of Harper. Mrs. Oehler offers craft plaster plaques figurines and unfinished pieces while Mr. Oehler specializes in handmade wood items including cookbook racks spice racks gun cabinets and custom orders. They invite the public to browse.
The Gillespie County Democratic and Republican Parties announce primary elections on Saturday May 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Polling sites include eight Democratic locations such as the old Negro Church East Main Street and the Shandua Building 205 East Main while Republican voters from all precincts vote at the Standard Service Company Bull Wareing election judge and at other listed sites in Commissioner Precincts 2 and 3 with Rodman Seville and Hill Country Implement serving as judges. A precinct convention for Democrats follows at 7 30 p.m. at the polling places to name precinct chairmen.
