Two Artists Give Recital At Congregational Church
Mrs. Gilman Wisner and Mrs. Hollis Jones presented a two piano and organ recital at the Congregational church last Friday. The packed house filled every wall and hall entrance, with many turned away. Encores delighted the audience as the Treble Clef Club raised seventy five dollars to cover expenses. The program featured Brilliante and Chabrier pieces, Rachmaninoff, Chaminade, and Gounod selections, with Miss Spencer and Miss Rose Lerg assisting by turning pages.

Christmas Opening Planned for Eldora Town Center
Eldora villagers prepare a big Christmas opening on Friday December 4 at 7 p.m. in front of the courthouse with street lighting by the electric company and five 16 foot trees. Santa and Mrs Santa Claus will inspect shop windows as merchants showcase decorated displays. Mrs Hortense Reynolds leads program planning and city decorations with help from the Eldora Band for a 30 minute concert. Burial services for Mrs R P Wright followed in nearby cemetery after death in Des Moines.

The Fair Association met yesterday and faced ongoing losses and debt. A December 11 adjourned session will decide whether to revive the old efforts, form a new company, or sell the ground for a park. A committee was named to pursue options to finance the fair. Church notices urge evangelist Jas A Burns to open services Sunday at 11 am with a 7:30 pm song service. Thanksgiving morning speaker Mr. Rice at the Methodist church and a Thursday prayer and song service are announced. Farm fire near New Providence destroyed a barn and several buildings on Otis Waldo’s farm and an auto. insurance partly covers costs.

Fire Sunday Eve at the Boyd Home
Sunday night a blaze at the Jay C Boyd home caused heavy smoke from the basement chimney base. Firemen arrived quickly but no water reached the floor as damage was limited to a chair or two and extensive redecorating will be needed to remove the odor. residents credit the swift response for saving the house.

Mrs. C. H. Hollied, maiden Cordela Mann, aged 65, died at home in Sac City on Wednesday November 11 after five months of serious illness. Born June 4, 1886 in Weston Missouri, she married Charles Hollie March 4, 1884 at Weston. They lived in Weston, St. Joseph, Morton Kansas, Maryville Missouri, Eldora Iowa, and Sac City, where she supported the family business in floriculture. Surviving eight children include Mrs. T. P. McGague of Ottawa, Oklahoma, Mrs. di Gy M of Maxwell, Iowa, Mrs Wy of Eldora, Iowa, and Charles of Iowa City. Funeral and full obituary details not provided.

The Eldora Community Club president reports Santa Claus will arrive Friday evening December 4 with Mrs Santa Claus. He plans to view the Christmas decorations for the formal opening and speak to the children. Santa may travel by train, road, or air, but will be on time to greet boys and girls from miles around on Court House square.

Fall Term of District Court Busy Four-Week Session
District court convened for a four week term with Judge Teyson presiding. Sixteen criminal cases are noted and a large grand jury list is reported. Five Highways Across Iowa Plan Approved by Board
The plan to designate five federal highways crossing Iowa gains approval from a board and will map routes from Dubuque to Des Moines, with routes connecting Boston to Oregon and St Paul to Mason City among others. Officials will mail maps and signs to towns as the system outlines east west and north south corridors with 75,884 miles of road.
