Lutheran Women Hold Annual Retreat at Camp Wapsie
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League district held its summer retreat at Camp Wapsie near Cedar Rapids September 16 to 18. Rev. John Zimmermann opened the gathering and led vesper services with daily Bible study by Pastor Otto Schultz. Guest lecturer Rev. Arnold Strohschein spoke about Mindanao Philippines missions, while the retreat chorus and several hostesses supported events. Fifty two campers and 135 guests attended with 16 full time campers from Eldora Region. Plans for next year’s retreat are underway.

Community notices and family visits mark a quiet week
Local families hosted and visited relatives from Minnesota and Missouri over the weekend. Church groups met and elected new officers while members pieced comforter tops. A legal notice announces estate probate proceedings and a scheduled court hearing in Eldora in late September 1957.

Appointments were announced for next year including work and program coordinators Mrs Vic Rogers Mrs Martin Chrisman and Mrs Ward Houghkirk with reporters Mrs Velma Hauser. Enos Fouts visited Hy-Line poultry farms tour in Johnson and nearby towns. Marty Lynn Rogers born Sept 2 at Evangelical Hospital Marsdal ltown weighing 9 lbs 13 ozs. Grandson of Vic Rogers and Jerry Rogers on furlough from Ft Sheridan. Numerous visits and meetings followed including Republican convention in Marshalltown and a Canadian hunting trip for Gladstone Smith M L Hodson and Frank Binder. Ward Houghkirk injured in a fall from a horse and hospitalized in Des Moines. Family reunion in San Francisco and Green Mountain area guests attended.
