The Eldora Woman's Club holds its first meeting of the new year Monday at 2:30 p.m. in Vibrare club rooms. Hostess Golden Hour will be served. Guest speaker Eldos McVeety will discuss My Trip to Scotland. Mrs Clem Marsden will sing Seti sh Aires with Mrs Sam Romberg on piano.
Mr and Mrs Raymond Fol fet marked their 26th wedding anniversary with a 6:30 p.m. dinner at Blanche and Ethel's Tea Room hosted by Mr and Mrs Ernest Lee. Attending were their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Russell Largon of Schenectady New York and Mrs Judy Lee.
The 4C's TOPS Club met Monday evening in the Arm Bureau building with fifteen members present. A rummage sale and bake sale are planned for October 26, location to be announced. Refreshments were served. Mrs. Rex Heard and Mrs. FE Humphrey assisted.
A bridal shower for Miss Poasti Logan of Omaha Nebr was held Sunday September 29 at the American Legion Hall in Porrhy bard. Guests from Zearing McCallburg Williams Radcliffe Ul bard and Ownsa attended. The event included a program with Miss Logan speaking about herself and future plans, games, and a luncheon after the order had opened. The hall was decorated in red and white and a wedding is planned for October 1 in Omaha Neb.
Mr and Mrs Ray Lightfield hosted a gathering at the world life club for Rollin Lightfield who observed his first birthday on May 2 He spent two years seven months overseas and has returned home from service Twenty four relatives and friends attended the event and Nolyn received gifts during the visit.
The engagement and approaching marriage of Navan to Charles Reynold are announced by Mrs Harold Cable and Mr and Mrs Fred A Cross of Mendota. The wedding is planned for May 20 at the Eldora Methodist Church.
The Ellis Township firm unit met Friday September 27 with 23 members present. Mrs E L Pettenger chaired. officers elected included Mrs Fred Sida as chairman and Mrs Max Hilippy as vice chairwoman. Reports, then a talk on Now dee Magach Mes and New Providence circulating in the far east. Tea and decorations followed. Pettenger poured.
Mr and Mrs Howard Calfee hosted a day bridge gathering Saturday evening with root beer and dinner for Ethel and the group. Mr and Mrs Paul Clark and Saw LA and Mrs Lee Lundy to host the October 12 meeting.
Chapter FA of PEO met for a luncheon and first meeting of the new club year at Blanche and Ethel's Tu Room. Twenty five members attended with Mrs HL St Nazett as luncheon chair and Mrs J W Schlampp as hostess. After lunch they adjourned to Mrs Sehlam's home for the business meeting and social afternoon.
A sequence of local club meetings and social gatherings spans October 4 to October 10. Groups include Urban Club, Junior Legion Auxiliary, Eldora Woman's Club, Brownlie Scout events, Bridge Groups, Wom en's and Masonic organizations, Rebekah Lodge, Keuntry Klub, Tea Room, Masonic and Congregational activities, United Circle, and various study, luncheon, and potluck sessions led by area residents and organizations. Activities occur at Legion hall, Wildlife Club, churches, libraries, and community centers.
The Rebekah Circle met Tuesday afternoon at the I. O. O. F. Temple with good attendance. A genefic card party for Odd Fellows Rebekahs and guests was set for Wednesday Oct 16. The committee includes Mrs. Chester Modlin Mrs. George Ibach Mrs. Charlie Mitchell Mrs. Fannie Goodson Mrs. Tom Foughty and Mrs. Grace Allbee.
The Congregational Junior Work Circle opened its year with 11 members and seven guests at Mrs. Mac Greene's home. Devotions were led by Mrs. Aage Jensen. President Mrs. Greene outlined the year's program and plans. The next meeting is set for October 28 at the church.
Mrs. L E Kasischke organized a surprise birthday dinner for Mr Kasischke at the Eldora Youth Building. A three tier cake created by Mrs Lowell Kasischke highlighted the table while relatives and friends from New Providence Hubbard Wellsburg Alden State Center Radcliffe and OtO gathered to celebrate his birthday.
Miss Kay Griffel a sophomore at Northwestern University Evanston Illinois has pledged Pi Beta Phi sorority She is also chosen for the universitys A Capella choir and cast in the opera The Marriage of Figaro

Pine Lake Country Club will begin Sunday dinners on October 6 from noon to 3 pm. Reservations are not required but appreciated. The first meeting of the Duplicate Bridge tournament is planned for Wednesday evening, October 9.
The Iowa Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs held its Third District meeting in Grundy Center on Sunday September 29 with 157 members registering from Eldora and nearby clubs. Activities included registration and coffee, a smorgasbord lunch at Hemp Mill, and an afternoon session with speaker Martha Pierson of Red Oak who had attended the national dedication in Washington DC. An invitation was extended for Oct 10 at Shell Rock for its 10th anniversary, and Eldora was invited to a Waterloo gathering Oct 16 with Dorothy Houghton as speaker. The next district meeting is the Spring Conference in Hampton in April and the state meeting in Waterloo May 15–18 at Hotel President.
The N T T club met with Mrs Arlie Williams on Tuesday October 1 at 7 pm for their regular gathering with 17 members present. Ed Stebe presided as president. Plans were set for the Christmas dinner and committees were formed. Mrs Alice Williams presented a gavel to the club which Mrs Stebe accepted. Refreshments followed with Mrs T H Schaa assisting. Miss Alice Stebe to host October 15 meeting.
Eldora Woman's Club Hospitality department met on Tuesday evening October 1 at the home of Mrs Elmer Koeder with co hosts Mrs Raymond Hunt and Mrs James Riggins. Eleven members and nine guests attended. Don Wilson presented the program on legal advice. A bake sale followed, each item sold accompanied with a recipe. Hostess for the November 5 meeting was announced as Mrs W D Schnirring.
The New Providence high school class of 1927 held its first reunion since graduation on Sunday September 28 at the Wildlife club. Dinner was served at noon at Berrier's White House Cafe, then the group returned to the Wildlife club. Attendees included Loyd Rash De gcorah, Clarence Beach New Providence, Wade Williams Union, E F Steelman Gifford, Clair Clingerman New Providence, Loyd Dooley New Providence, Bernard Rash Waterloo, Lee North Eldora, Lowell Perisho New Providence, Johannes Meints Ackley, with three unable to attend Fay Smitherman Yadkinville NC Glen Johnson Vancouver WA and Mrs Vern Latch Fairfield. One member Charlie Quigley has died. Social afternoon enjoyed. Class plans another reunion in two years.
The 1928 New Providence high school class held a reunion in the Community Room on Sunday September 29 with seventeen of twenty-two members present. Several couples who married joined, including Knight Whitehead and Wooten pairs, plus other members and guests. After a basket dinner the year’s graduation prophecy was read, and plans were made to reunite every five years. Supt. Murray led a school tour and visitors viewed hand woven works from mission trips by Kermit and Mary Whitehead.
The Clay Sunshine 4-H club met Saturday at Jane Ohling s home with thirteen members two leaders and one guest present. Trinket boxes were made during the afternoon. The next meeting is set for Oct 23 at Peggy McDonald s home with officer elections to be held.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Ivester church for Mrs. Mable Freed Ibach 57. She died Sept. 25 at Eldora Memorial Hospital after a long illness. The Rev. Charles Albin officiated with interment in Sheller cemetery. Surviving are sons Harvey Dale Lynn and daughter Ida Marie Schwarck and Genevieve J. Reints. Her husband Leo W. Freed preceded her in death.
The Eldora Chamber of Commerce bulletin adopts a neat new layout after secretary Willie Schnirr ing received pointers at a Chamber executives meeting in Waverly. A mimeograph machine will print the updated bulletin. The latest issue includes a directory of recent Eldora newcomers detailing their families and work.
Mr and Mrs Floyd Price and their son and wife Mr and Mrs Bruce Price of Chicago Illinois were Sunday guests in Forest City at the home of Mrs Floyd Price s sister and husband Mr and Mrs Bill Hoagland The Bruce Prices left Tuesday to return to Chicago after vacationing here.

October events include an Extension Council meeting at 8 p.m. at the extension office on Oct 7, area training meetings for leaders and booster committees at Elders youth building and Steamboat Rock school on Oct 8, with 8 p.m. times also listed for Hubbard and Caroline Hall in Edgewood Place Iowa Falls. A 4-H leaders and booster committees session occurs Oct 8 at Hubbard and Caroline Hall, both 8 p.m. The Family Living Committee meets Oct 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the extension office, followed by an annual fair board meeting in the evening on Oct 15.
Sunday morning worship at 9 45 led by Rev Paul Caskey with evangelistic services at Evergreen EUB each evening through Oct 6. Communion observed during morning worship. Sunday school at 10 45. Choir practice at 7 p m. Other social and family events feature gatherings, visits, and meals across Hubbard Eldora and nearby towns, including Dairy Cattle Congress attendance and college enrollments.
Mrs Clara Raske and her sister and husband Otto and Mrs Dettbarn of Iowa Falls joined Mr and Mrs Lawrence Harms of Alden in Waterloo on Monday for a social visit.
Berlin calls for a church homecoming this Sunday at the Berlin church with a full day of events. Sunday school starts at 10 a.m. and morning services at 11. A noon basket dinner follows, then an afternoon program. Rev. Peter Peters of Iowa Falls will be the guest speaker. Public invitation issued.
The Department of Social Welfare reports September disbursements totaling 27708 dollars. Hardin County old age assistance received 21054 dollars, 532 dollars went to the needy blind, and 6122 dollars funded aid to dependent children.
Eldora officials report the county shop building south of Cable’s D-X service station has not sold after a Sept 25 public auction. The top bid of 5000 fell short of the board’s 8000 minimum, set by the county supervisor. Two northwest storage lots also remained unsold, with a bid of 100 for both. County Engineer Wray Fur reports ongoing inquiries but no definite leads.
Miss Irma Schwarck who vacationed in Eldora for months left last week to return to Chicago where she works at the Children's Home. Also noted were Florence Northrup visiting Berlin parishioners and dining with her sister in Owasa, plus several El Dora area families hosting and visiting relatives in Iowa and Minnesota over the weekend.
Missouri extension specialists propose steps to cut feeding costs and boost milk profits. Strategies include pasture management with cows, surplus forage use, regular top-dressings, fertilizing and reseeding at least a quarter to half acre per cow, rotation grazing to prevent overgrazing, providing at least three tons of silage per cow, storing hay in dry silos when needed, and harvesting hay at the early bloom stage for higher protein. They also recommend a grain mix dominated by home grown corn, barley, and oats.
