Roupe to Return Sunday For Visit

Five years after leaving El Dora Roupe John BR Roupe 35 will return for a one day visit with his parents and children Mary Lee eight and Dennis six. He spent years in hospitals for polio at University Hospital Iowa City and Veterans hospital Des Moines aided by VFW post 6852. Jim Geneva head therapist at the Des Moines hospital accompanies him. He will ride home by car and return to the hospital Sunday night.

Pre-Flight Training For Jerry Short

Jerry Short son of Mr and Mrs C Q Short of Dallas Texas has qualified for aviation cadet training as an aircraft observer with the Air Force. He will report to Lackland Air Force Base soon to begin pre flight training after submitting to qualification tests there. The Shorts formerly lived here.

Home-School Tour For Eldora Teachers And Families

Eldora school system teachers and families took a guided tour of Eldora Lakes area Steamboat Rock and the river road between Eldora and Steamboat. The outing was sponsored by the Home School recreation committee and included a stop at Quaker Heights for a chili supper.

Eldora to Start Thrift Bucks Cash Days Oct 14

The Eldora Chamber of Commerce approves a redesigned Cash Days using Thrift Bucks redeemable for merchandise. The first event is set for Oct 14 at 3 p.m. with prizes of 50, 25 and three 10 dollar awards. Aimed as a Christmas promotion, the plan runs through Christmas with registration ongoing.

District Court Opens Here Monday Nine Civil Cases

The Hardin county board revised the Hubbard Iowa Community School District boundaries removing 260 acres and setting Oct. 19 for the next hearing to fix the boundaries and election date. The full term of court opens Monday with Judge Harvey Unenhopp on the bench. nine new state cases and 12 new civil cases including 11 divorce actions are on the docket. Grand and petit jurors are summoned for Oct. 12 and Oct. 19.

Begin to Donate Chest Corn for Eldora Drive

The 1953 Eldora Community Chest drive corn crib will be erected on the courthouse square today to collect corn donations for the fund. Co chairs John Bekemeier and Les Flickinger outline the plan including door to door solicitation and corn contributions with a $6,000 goal. Farmers may bring corn to the crib or call 97 Black or 91 in Eldora for pickup, and donors will be listed.

Mrs. Alfred Mesch 51 died September 23 at Story City hospital. Final rites held Saturday at Salem Evangelical United Brethren church Hubbard. Burial Hubbard cemetery. Hardin County Sets 1953 Christmas Seal Goal

Mrs. May B. Cobb, president and county Seal Sale Chairman of the Hardin County Tuberculosis and Health Association, announced a 1953 Christmas Seal Sale quota of 4675.88 dollars. The drive runs Nov 16 through December, funded to support health education case-finding and other association programs for tuberculosis and heart disease. The goal aims to lift Iowa from fourth to third in per capita giving.

Foster suffers broken hand after fall from truck box

Gene Jughead Foster, a Foster Farms worker southeast of Eldora, broke his left hand Monday afternoon when he fell from the box of a truck. He was reported in stable condition with no further injuries disclosed.
