Eldora Considers Shuffleboard Court Plans

A Monday meeting of local citizens approved moving ahead with shuffleboard court plans in Eldora. Attendees named include Mr and Mrs Donald Wilson Dr C G Gould Mrs Howard Clingerman J C Whitehead Mrs Robert Gunderson Noah Walde Jim Johnson Glenn Paul and Gary Brinkmeyer. Three sites were discussed east of the water tower south of the library and near the courthouse at Pioneer Plaza with a library area favored by most. Inside court option eyed for year round use. Estimated costs: single court 8 by 52 feet about 500 dollars double court 14 by 52 feet about 1 000 dollars.

Local Republican candidates in the August 1 primary will speak at the Meet Your Candidates fundraising dinner on Saturday May 6 at the Hardin County Youth Building Eldora. Services Pending For David Glenn

Funeral services are pending for David Glenn 79 at the Biera born Funeral Home in Union. He died at his Bangor home after a life spent farming in Union township. A World War I veteran he married Mary McCracken on March 17 1920 in Marshall town and leaves his wife one son and three daughters plus 11 grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion and Farm Bureau.

Iowa Falls Man Seeks 5th Dist Senate Seat Nomination

George West of Iowa Falls announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in Iowa Senate District 5 a newly drawn district covering parts of Hardin Wright Cerro Gordo Hancock and surrounding townships. West formerly worked with KIFG radio and Clap saddle Garber Associates while noting that incumbent James A. Poberter will not seek re election.

Historical Society to Tour Maxwell Museum

Hardin County Historical Society members will meet Sunday May 7 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Maxwell town museum. Emmet Hirt publicity chairman notes 1972 dues are now due and payable to Paul Barnard of Eldora.

West seeks GOP nomination for new 40th District seat

State Center businessman James West announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for State Representative in the newly formed 40th District. The district spans parts of Hardin Grundy Marshall and Story counties. West, married with three children, holds an MBA and BA in business administration and has been active in local civic groups and Republican party organizations. He said the goal is to unite five counties into an effective political unit and improve communication with constituents.

Eldora Council Grants Permits and Plans Tornado Alerts

The Eldora City Council approved multiple building permits and set a civil defense practice tornado alert schedule. A First Baptist Church delegation sought street widening for parking and street dedication. Alden area Democrat seeks Hardin County supervisor bid

Leonard H Ites of rural Alden, 53, seeks the Hardin County Supervisors seat on the Democratic ticket in the August 1 primary. An auctioneer by background and longtime United Methodist lay speaker, Ites owns 160 acres and rents 80 more, with son Robert farming the land. He and his wife have three children. He previously ran for supervisor in 1972 on the Republican ticket.

Clark McNeal Hardin county attorney will not seek re election to devote more time to private law practice. McNeal, county attorney for two years, is a partner in the Ackerman and McNeal law firm at Alden. No other candidates have filed for the post.

Iowa Falls Man Seeks County Sheriff's Post

James Simpson of Iowa Falls filed for the Democratic primary for sheriff. Simpson, 8, native to Iowa Falls, has led Alden as marshal for over three years and served four years with the Iowa Falls Police Auxiliary. He and his wife have three daughters Sherri 16 Linda 14 Lori 11. He belongs to First United Methodist Church and is a Masonic Lodge member and Red Cross first aid instructor. He lives three miles east of Towa Falls and works for Towa Limestone Co.

Sixth graders in Hardin county will try again Friday May 5 to hold the second annual Youth Natural Resource Day across Hardin county outdoor classrooms at Reece Memorial Park near New Providence Pine Lake Wildlife Club near Eldora and the Conservation Headquarters near Iowa Falls. Hutzells Check For County Landfill Property

A $53,098.10 check was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hutzell to finalize the Hardin County landfill purchase. The 80 acre farm near Joe's Station on Highway 65 was bought for $675 per acre totaling $54,000 with adjustments, and closing costs. Supervisors J C Whitehead Leo Knight Carl Lettow attended along with Auditor Robert J Barr and Attorney Clark McNeal. Bids for landfill operation will be opened Friday at 2 p.m. in the supervisor's office.
