Soprano Linda Wood to sing at Barga Opera Festival
Linda Wood, soprano, selected to perform with the Barga Opera Festival in Barga, Italy, this summer. The program runs four Italian operas over six weeks starting July 3. Eldora High School senior Alan Dole son of Glen and Mrs Dole of Eldora was named one of 10 Iowa seniors to receive Hy Vee Food Stores Chariton scholarships. His brother Steve won in 1970 and Alan attends ISU Ames. The award provides 500 yearly for four years totaling 2000 and requires Hy Vee employment or family employment. Fatality Following I F Collision Near Iowa Falls
One man died and nine injured after a high speed chase ended in a collision between a car and a school bus near Iowa Falls. Victim John Smelter, 19, of Waterloo, died after transfer to Ellsworth Hospital. Injured include Michael McGrath and Delbert Hartle, taken to Mercy Hospital Des Moines in serious condition with head injuries. Also injured were Irv Egeland the driver, and four track squad members, Kirk Neubauer, Marty Craig, Tim Tjarks, plus three others released after treatment. Police report the 1970 Plymouth Duster, driven by McGrath, sped 90 mph before veering into the bus van.
