Townships Vote On Fire Protection Levy Plan
Voters in at least seven townships including Clay Concord Eldora Jackson Providence Buckeye and Sherman will decide June 5 on a tax levy for fire protection. If approved a levy up to one and a half mills may be enacted and towns may buy equipment arrange with a town department use it or contract with town firemen. Eldora township weighs a one third mill levy and new trucks planned will be specially equipped for farm fires carrying more water.

Surface Drainage on R. Eller Farm Boosts Tiling
The Hardin district reports a surface drainage project on Rudolph Eiler’s 160 acre farm near Hubbard. Technicians advised surface drainage to eliminate a low eight acre ponding area despite good tiling. The system, built with a two foot depth and a two acre-feet in dozer work, supports a three year rotation of corn, alfalfa, and meadow.

Whitten’s fire siren failed to rise above the tower on Monday and Tuesday. A bewildered bird appeared at the top of the tower on Tuesday noon. On Wednesday a crew gathered to remove the bird and its nest from the siren brushes.

Pine Lake Wildlife club announces a pre hunt for three boys. Jay Cakerice has 420 points on two crows and eight starlings, David Dempsey 475 points on one fox and 45 starlings, and Jerry Foster completes the trio. Eldora high school celebrates its graduation week with events from May 12 to May 24. The seniors’ trip to Clear Lake follows May 24. A class play is set for May 12, with performances on Wednesday and Friday. Baccalaureate services and the Sunday May 21 program precede the main commencement with Dr Robert F Ray as speaker. Dr Ray leads the Institute of Public Affairs at the State University of Iowa and holds a PhD from Iowa City.

Supt Lorber to Leave Providence for Orange City
George Lorber head of the Providence consolidated schools for two years resigned this week to become superintendent at Orange City. He had signed a contract for 1950 31 year. Frances Altman music teacher also resigned, increasing vacancies to five. Lorber will lead a 20 teacher system with 125 high school and 244 in grades, in a town of about 2500.

Eldora Board Studies Plans for Two Grade School Buildings
Eldora consolidated school board examined three options for grade school relief, including two buildings on opposite ends of town, one on the current site with junior high and Hardin structures, or a single new unit on the present site. They reviewed input from architect Lee Cochran, Dr E T Peterson, and N E Wiles, with further reports pending before public planning boards and a March 1952 election window. The plan aims to keep classes in place during razing, allow future gym and auditorium, and stay within the district bond limit of 403,782 with estimated cost around 359,000. Continuous updates and district-wide meetings were planned.
