The Hawthorne club gathered at the W Kurtz residence Monday evening with Mrs Louis Davzes leading a program on the Alaska Highway. Members answered roll call with the prompt Where Do You Want to Go On Your Vacation and refreshments followed.
Mrs. Cecil Pickering hosted the 20th Century Club meeting with 19 members and one guest, Mrs. Snapp. Four new members joined: Mrs. Howard Frey, Mrs. Howard Harris, Mrs. Theo Hazen, and Mrs. R. R. Roberts. Plans were made for a trip to West Bend and remarks honored outstanding mothers of 1950 and 1949. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Pickering, Mrs. C. A. Hatsser, and Miss Leota Hardy.
A Monday evening potluck at the Congregational church drew about 75 attendees. John Bekemeier was elected president and Mrs. Robert Barr secretary, to take office in October. The Heslop family was named Family of the Week with entertainment by the high school instrumental music department including David Wilson saxophone Shirley Follett trumpet and a saxophone quartet. Mrs. Merle Froning accompanied.
A Burlington birthday gathering honored Ray McAllister and his sister Mrs. R. H. Thie at the McAllister home with dinner prepared by Mrs. McAllister and Mrs. Ray Lewis. Attending were Mr. and Mrs. R. Owasa school board hosts a community farewell for retiring superintendent R. D. Rabenold on Monday evening May 15 at eight o clock. Attendees are invited and asked to bring their own silver, sandwiches, cake or fruit salad. a short program is planned.
Mrs. Ralph Dickson hosted the Sans Souci club Tuesday afternoon with nine members present. The gathering was social with a short thieves meeting and refreshments served with Mrs. Mabel Sternm assisting.
Mrs Wesley Willig welcomed 16 Young Mothers members Tuesday evening with guest Mire Wayne Fisher. Schmidt, Kohoots superintendent, spoke on Iowa school conditions. Refreshments were served by co-hostesses Mrs Paul Barnard and Mrs Max Van Derveer.
At the May breakfast of the W S C held at the Methodist church on Wednesday morning new officers were installed by retiring vice president Mrs ed Wetman. Elected officers include President Mrs Paul Clark Vice President Mrs A L Davison Recording Secretary Mrs C J Piper Corresponding Secretary Mrs Harry Marks and Treasurer Mrs Ker mith Huehn.
Eldora bride elect Marcia Ames, daughter of Mrs. Ernest Ames, announces engagement to Ralph S. Volk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Volk of Steamboat Rock. The couple plans to marry June 30. Troy Mack photo.
Mrs C J Piper was guest speaker at Whitten Wednesday evening at the Methodist church during a gathering of the Junior Hearthstone group hosted by the clubs. She was accompanied by Mrs G W Kurtz, county chairman of the Federation of Women’s clubs.
The council theatre party features the film Women of Tomorrow shown with Dear Wife. Pleasant Township Rural Women plan a May 16 picnic at Logsdon Park. Club notes include Breakfast Club at W.S.C. breakfast church. Senior Girl Scouts attend Des Moines conference with six named members. Mrs M H Smith honored at Waterloo dinner with family. WCTU meet May 18 at Baptist church with White Ribbon service and tea following.
Miss Eileen Perkins daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Perkins has been accepted for admission at Upper Iowa University in Fayette for the summer quarter starting July 4 She will graduate from Eldora High School this spring and plans to pursue primary teaching Her activities include glee club dramatics mixed chorus and staff work on the annual and school papers magazines
The St. Mary's Child Study Club met Tuesday evening with Mrs. Robert Dornsbach presiding as all members attended. Mrs. Katherine Tbach led the church story and the group planned the next meeting for May 23 with Mrs. Harry Holmes in charge.
Coming events list includes meetings on May 35 with D A RB and Mrs H J Janssen, May 16 with American Home division one and M T with Mrs Florence Northrup, and May 18 cemetery society meeting with Mrs Mayme St George. Orlan Mitchell was re elected president of the HiV at their Monday evening meeting Edwin Anderson was named vice president Jerry Hodgson secretary and David Piper was listed as officer The committee read summer activity suggestions with Wilson Crandall Leon Doughty and Orlan Mitchell as members Installation is set for May 22 and a joint Tri Hi Y meeting with recommendations to follow Advisers Norell Smith and George Janssen attended The meeting time was moved to eight o'clock to align with Explorer Scout activities A Tri Hi Y mother daughter tea is planned for May 14 at Dixie Lee Crosley home from 3 to 4 pm The next Tri Hi Y meeting is scheduled for Monday at the Library with officer elections and reports from freshmen on conference towns City The Maltbys spent the weekend in Kirksville Mo with Mr Maltbys mother Ursula Maltby
