A Monday windstorm tore through Mpton and Wills townships from 3 to 4:30 PM injuring no one. At the Kenneth Van Patter farm south of Cottape church a straw shed was razed, a fence blown over, doors displaced, and poultry killed or injured. The Everett Lee family farm, owned by Mrs. James Lake, suffered damage to multiple structures including two barns and a machine shed.

County Truck Stuck in Mudhole North of Steamboat Rock
A county truck hauling crushed rock became mired in a mudhole on a north south road east of Steamboat Rock during a Tuesday afternoon operation to fill the hole with nine loads. Rain worsened the condition, and the crew freed the vehicle on Wednesday. A second mudhole northwest of Steamboat also troubles the area.

He previously served as superintendent at LeGrand for seven years and has spent four years teaching in a Bellflower private school, the last two as superintendent. Three teachers are leaving the Whitten staff and two new teachers were hired to fill grade vacancies. An economics teacher is yet to be obtained.

Eldora man charged with operating vehicle while intoxicated
Ivan F. McKay, 67, of Eldora, was arrested by Deputy Harald Marshman about 6 PM Wednesday north of Eldora near the city dump and charged with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. In a preliminary hearing before Justice C. W. Haase, the case was bound over to the district court grand jury with McKay posting a $500 bond.

Final contest of the year for Hardin county music students is at Mason City today and Saturday. Only one round of competition for bands and large vocal groups this spring. Flore high school's four entries compete Saturday. The girls choir performs 9:30 a.m. the boys choir at 1:30 p.m. and the mixed chorus at 2:50 p.m. The band competes at 10:30 a.m.
