Juliette Low Party Observed by Eldora Girl Scouts

Eldora marked the 39th birthday of the Girl Scouts with a Monday evening party at the high school gym. Attended by 145 Brownies to seniors, the event featured a flag ceremony, pledges, songs, skits, and a puppet show. Members discussed summer camp plans and a May Court of Awards.

Newcomers Unit Hosts Busy Tuesday Meeting

Mrs Kenneth Harrington welcomed 30 members and five guests to the Newcomers club with a regular business session followed by piano duets by Mrs Howard Harris and Mrs Howard Frey. The program led to a contest and crazy bridge with prizes for Mrs Dale Rodgers and Mrs Wayne Aurand, and St Patrick day refreshments. Assistants were Mrs Virgil Radoh and Mrs Cleo Bierbaum.

St. Marys Study Club Holds Regular Meeting

Good attendance marked the St. Marys Study Club Division 1 gathering Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Robert Dorns bach. Mrs. Roscoe Hunt led the lesson reading a chapter from Life of Christ and the group studied the New Testament. Coffee closed the session with next meeting set for March 20.

Memorial honors Juliette Lowe founder of Girl Scouts

Troops and council members participate in a memorial for Juliette Lowe founder of Girl Scouts in America and her aim to promote international scouting. A fund of 28.47 was raised. Lunch was provided by committee members and served by Troop IIB led by Mrs Earl Travis. The program committee includes Mrs Kermith Huehn chair, Mrs Kusserow, Mrs Travis, and Mrs Milo Myers.

Mr and Mrs William A Fowles were married here Sunday. Mrs Fowles formerly Beryl Louise Short. The couple plans to reside in Las Vegas.

Card shower planned for former Eldoran

Eldora friends plan a birthday card shower for Grant Tyler whose 87th birthday falls March 15. Address is 809 South Oak St Duarte California. Grant reports he is quite well and he and his wife moved to California in June 1946.

N T T Club Meeting At Mrs Orgell Home

N T T club met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs Ella Orgell home with 13 members present. They held their regular meeting then worked on needlework and visited. Mrs Orgell served light lunch. Next gathering with Mrs Ida Clark on March 20. Harvey Smith Jr and family from Marshalltown spent weekend here.

A series of club meetings and social gatherings are scheduled from March 9 to March 16. Groups include Rebekahs, 20th Century Division, Monday and Hawthorne clubs, Young Mothers, Mothers, Sans Souci, and Congregational Ladies United Circle with St Marys Altar and Rosary Society, plus Public Welfare Dept Needlecraft club. A 1 o'clock luncheon Tuesday with 25 members of the P. FE. O. at Mrs. Clarence DeCook's home led to officer elections. Mrs. F. K. Schmidt was named president for the coming year. Other officers include vice-president Mrs. Keith Van Patter, recording secretary Mrs. DeCook, corresponding secretary Mrs. Charles Marks, treasurer Mrs. Aymer Davis, chaplain Mrs. Walter Ruhnke, guard Mrs. R. Visits span Pomona California Oskaloosa Iowa Falls and Cedar Rapids with relatives and friends.

Hughes J Bryant Addresses Communism Challenge at Woman's Club

Mason City attorney Hughes J. Bryant spoke to a Woman's Club audience on The Challenge of Communism. He warned communism as a conspiracy could disrupt production and threaten democracy, urged indoctrination of inductees, and recalled WWII service emphasizing why citizens bear arms. Students hosted by Miss Ernwine attended, with piano selections and refreshments.

Leslie Pieters hosted guests while Carl Otto and Harold Mathews family spent Tuesday at Hampton with Ernest Kuhlman. Steamboat Rock and Iowa Falls visitors joined Doering Dillion and Stacy Miller for Sunday dinner with the Pieters. Evening callers included Carl Hand and Lloyd Scheely.

U N Flag Presented Eldora Township Farm Bureau Meeting

Eldora township Farm Bureau held a potluck supper for about 70 attendees at the community house. A short business meeting followed with a program featuring Harold Rolph singing, Floyd Hurtt on guitar, Cub scouts David Vinton and Larry McNertney presenting flags, and Kermith Huehn recounting U N flag history. Mrs. Lillian V. Putnam presented the flag, Chester Modlin accepted for the Farm Bureau, and David Piper performed magic as new neighbors were welcomed.

Kenneth Brandt Wed To Garden City Girl

RADCLIFFE The marriage of Janice Laidley daughter of Mr and Mrs L G Laidley of Garden City to Kenneth Brandt son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Brandt of Hubbard took place Feb 28 at Zion Evangelical parsonage in Hubbard. The Rev Arthur Kruetzmann read the double ring ceremony with only immediate family present. Janet Laidley was the twin sister’s attendant and Duane Nessa attended the groom. They will live on a farm south of Garden City.

A Tri-Hi-Y meeting in the library club room covered letters from Hideo Tokora Ames and Max W Clovers North Central Iowa secretary. They planned a youth roller skating party at Rutland s with Bob Meader supervising and Shirley Holt and Jean Van Tiger aiding. Lenten devotional meetings shift to the Congregational church chapel. The National High Congress June 21 26 in Cleveland was the main topic with Norma Burns named as district delegate and one more girl to be chosen.
