The Eldora Church of Christ marks its 100th anniversary with a March 9 birthday fellowship. James McMarrow of Ottumwa will speak. The Living Word quartet with Kent Brothers will perform. The church traces to 1851 from pioneer homes, organizing in 1855 with Peter Mason and Jonathan Conger as leaders, reorganized in 1865, and a 300-seat church built in 1867, with a new building dedicated July 9, 1905.

R A Scott of Eldora bought three parcels formerly owned by the late Miriam Brown at a trustee sale. Total paid was 14700 dollars for the residence and adjacent land, 4000 dollars for the barn lot, and 3200 dollars for the east residence, with immediate possession given and the east house lease to the Moores remaining. Eldora records Dr L L Roberts of Eldora as administrator of Eldora Memorial hospital succeeding Mrs Lillian Swenson whose resignation was accepted. The appointment is immediate with plans to hire a superintendent of nurses later. Roberts is a Iowa State College graduate with post graduate work at Ohio State and experience at Buffalo General Hospital and Johnson Hospital Chanute Kansas. Swenson came from Des Moines March 1 1944 to head the hospital after serving as supervisor on the surgical floor at Iowa Lutheran. Roberts is the fourth in charge since the hospital opened following Orville Peterson and Mrs J D Kemler and Esther Harris.

Eldora Chamber Of Commerce Dinner Marks New Year
About 250 attended Eldora Chamber of Commerce annual dinner in the high school gym marking the start of another year of activity. Secretary Felton recounted achievements, Felton’s list printed in the Eldora Newsletter was distributed with the annual financial report. Local entertainment featured the high school sextet directed by Britsch, the brass sextet led by Aurand, and a pantomime Bushel and a Peck by Mr. and Mrs. Piper, with Piper also pantomiming The Thing as an encore. Retiring president Reislinger acted as toastmaster and thanked directors, then introductions followed for board members, wives, Felton, Everett, Peterson, Gene Foster, and others who helped with decorations. New president Maltby spoke on cooperation, and Brennan praised Eldoran’s clean streets and modern stores, telling stories of miners and sharecroppers and the Unknown Soldier allegory. Dinner followed after an invocation by Rev. Father McDonough, served by the school hot lunch department with decorations by Cleveland. corsages were given to wives and participants.

Sheriff Hodgson arrested Leowen Ulrich, 18, of Alden, on larceny of domestic animals. Ulrich allegedly took pigs from the James Idso farm, with three pigs found in his car trunk. He was held to the grand jury under a $500 bond and released after posting.

Wells Safety Project To Check Rural Water in Hardin County
Hardin County Uplands aims to improve health by testing wells in rural areas. The cooperative effort includes the Farm Bureau Women’s Division, Public Health Council, Health Improvement Association, and county health nurse Evelyn Olson. 375 wells will be tested after 25 per township, with results sent to the Iowa City hygienic lab.
