Marshalltown Man Arrested Here For P. L. Beach House Break-In

Jerome Stark, 24, of Marshalltown, was arrested around midnight Monday in the Pine Lake beach house and charged with breaking and entering. He waived preliminary hearing, bound over to district court, with $1,000 bond. Stark is jailed in Eldora awaiting trial after being seen heading toward the beach house amid recent break-ins at the state park.

Ivester Picnic Planned for Ivester Community

Families and neighbors in the Ivester area will hold a Fourth of July picnic at the Ivester church. Steamboat Rock music plans note no concert this Saturday night with the next set for Bald Wednesday night July 3. Pine Lake Motel Opens in Eldora with Ribbon Cutting

The Pine Lake Motel, a 12 unit property in Eldora, holds its grand opening all day Monday. The chamber of commerce ribbon cutting is at 10 a.m. Free coffee and doughnuts are offered from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pictures of the interior appear on the newspaper’s front page second section.

IL F To Condemn Land For City Well

The Iowa Falls city council has begun condemnation proceedings to acquire a small parcel from Dr. R. J. Bennett of Chicago for a new city well reservoir and pump house. A test well was dug with Bennett’s approval, but he withdrew support after learning the planned size of facilities. The 26 acre wooded tract would be minimally affected. Proceedings started last week.

OMVI Charge Filed On LeMars Man

Vincent Francis Schiltz a 41 year old from LeMars was bound over to district court in Eldora after arraignment before Police Judge J P Whitesell on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated He was arrested by Iowa Falls police on Wednesday and is free on a 500 dollar bond.

Blacktopping and seal coat work begins on Eldora road

City crews start blacktopping from Eldora to the city dump with roads closed until completion. Weather will decide timing as oiling proceeds, with heavier oil to reduce dust and traffic restrictions for about a half day. Fifteenth street and several avenues receive double seal coats and other blocks get mat surface final touches.

Dunk Tank Fundraiser For Junior Legion Team

Businessmen and county officials will be dunked Saturday in Eldora in a public fundraiser. Whitten Plans July 4th Activities At School

Whitten schedules an afternoon base ball game against Hubbard at 1 30 on the school diamond followed by a girls softball contest between Union Whitten and Wellsburg high teams at about 5 30. A fireworks display will light the evening program on the school grounds.

Milking Shorthorn Show Scheduled Here Thursday

A Milking Shorthorn cattle show from the north and central districts is set for Thursday at Eldora fairgrounds. Judging starts at 10 30 a m with a junior prizes contest. First and second prize animals may advance to the Alice Dairy Show in Cedar Rapids. F J Bachman of Clarence will judge. A potluck dinner is planned in the park at noon.

The Hubbard American Legion and auxiliary elected officers at their Thursday meeting. Acting Postmaster Recommended For Union Appointment

Ross G. Hauser, acting postmaster at Union, has been officially recommended for permanent appointment. Hauser took over on July 1, 1956 after A. J. Tysdahl retired, and he completed the civil service exam last fall, awaiting final word on the appointment.

Harold Perkins a 48 year old Eldora farmer was killed when pulled into a hay baler on the Frank Sheldon farm four miles southeast of Eldora. Coroner ruled accidental death and for funeral services set for 2 pm Saturday at the First Baptist Church Eldora with Rev Henry C Short officiating.

The Big Surprise Rotary Meeting Revelry

At the noon Rotary gathering couples attended as wives joined husbands at the country club. Mrs Henry Van Tiger opened the program by introducing Mrs Ralph Imes who gave her life history. Mrs Eldon McVeety spoke on what Rotary means to her, noting family vacations shaped around meetings and suggesting presidents learn public speaking with marbles in the mouth, then presented her husband a bag of marbles.

Whitten Plans Fourth of July Sports and Fireworks

An afternoon of sports is planned in Whitten on Thursday July 4 starting at 1 30 p m with a Whitten Hubbard town baseball game and at 5 30 p m a Union Whitten Wellsburg girls softball game. A fireworks display follows after dusk at the school ball diamond.

Rev Dimmlich New Methodist Minister Here

The Rev Walter Dimmlich new pastor of Eldora First Methodist Church, born in Saxony now behind the iron curtain, came to the U S at 21 and holds a BA from Baldwin Wallace and a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from Boston University. He served seven years at Arlington Maynard before moving to Eldora, joining Mrs Dimmlich born in a Methodist parsonage with roots in Grand Rapids and Berea where her father led the Methodist Children's Home.

Seven Feature Auto Races Set For July 5 At Hardin County

Seven feature auto races are planned for Friday July 5 at the Hardin county race track on the fairgrounds. Time trials start at 7 p m with the first heat at 8 30 p m. Drivers from United Speedways will compete alongside entrants from Ogden Des Moines and West Des Moines plus other states. An extra large field is anticipated after recent regional races. Wilson Hadley of the fair board said Speedways sought state approval for a fireworks display but there has been no decision yet.
