Rites Thursday For F. J. Edgar Eldora Jeweler
Fred J. Edgar 85 Eldora jeweler and longtime town leader died Tuesday after a brief illness. Funeral Thursday at the Methodist church with Rev. W. B. Ehlert and Rev. Warl Roadman presiding. He taught watchmaking in Sterling Illinois before moving to Eldora in 1893 and retiring in 1945. He and Blanche Foster married in 1901. two children Alvin and Viola and two grandchildren survive. He served as church treasurer 50 years, Rotary president and secretary, school board member, and helped bring Chautauqua and lecture series to the community. Burial in Eldora cemetery.

Former Union Man Cady O Lawrence Dies at 69
The Marshalltown Times-Republican reports the death in Marshalltown Monday of Cady O Lawrence, 69, after four months of illness. Born in Union November 21, 1882, he was a Union High School and Toland School of Business graduate, cashier at Citizens Bank of Union for 80 years, and widower of Mable Jackson of Marshalltown. He was active in Masonic orders, Congregational church, Elks Lodge 312, and Zag-Ga-Zig Shrine Des Moines. Burial was in Shepard Cemetery near Inton.

City to Receive Sewer Contract Bids Monday
Eldora city council will open bids next Monday night for the proposed 75000 dollar Liberty Park sewer extension. Henningson Engineering Co of Omaha notes several firms asked for plans but bid submissions remain uncertain. The council also set July 2 at 7:30 pm to receive bids for sewer construction bonds and published notices for hearing, bond funding, and bond sale with a 2.4 percent interest rate and a set maturity schedule.

Mrs. Willam G. Stonebraker was taken to Iowa City for diagnosis Saturday night and is reported to not have polio. Dr J J Shorts, her physician, was informed at University hospital on Tuesday. no further details released but her condition is good and markedly improved since Saturday night.

New Money Order Forms Use Begin July 2 in Blota
A new postal money order system goes into effect Monday morning July 2 in Blota and nationwide. The order can be paid at any bank or postoffice with proper ID and negotiated like a bank check, halting Eldora post office payments. Last Rites Held for Henry Thayer 83
Funeral services for Henry I. Thayer 83 were conducted at the Cottage Community church by Rev. Dewey Lamprecht. Burial followed at Cottage. Born December 14, 1867 in St. Lawrence County New York, he died June 14, 1951. Thayer, one of 16 children, never married. He lived in Hardin County most of his life after moving from New York to Wisconsin and Illinois, ending years with relatives near Cottage and near Iowa Falls for care.

The second session of the Hardin County firemen's school will be held in Eldora on Thursday June 29 with Assistant Chief Floyd McKinnie of Waterloo as instructor. County firemen are asked to convene at 8 p.m. The program begins with ladder raising at the softball park then a gas mask and resuscitator demonstration at the station. Mrs T A Rubow 72 suffered a broken hip and fractured wrist after slipping on back steps and falling on the sidewalk at her south town home. She is hospitalized at Eldora Memorial Hospital. Survivors include a son Harry of Garrison Minnesota and a sister Emma Williams of Iowa.

A Wednesday night street sale in Eldora drew an estimated 600 people. Proceeds totaling 478.75 from items donated by local firms will boost the Chamber’s 1951 budget as all services were donated.
