Orange Crate Derby for Eldora Kiddies Days

An Orange Crate Derby is announced for Eldora Kiddies Days on August 16 and 17. Sponsored by the Eldora Chamber of Commerce, the event targets boys under 18 within 25 miles, in three age classes. entrants must build their own car with strict cost and dimension limits and drive it themselves, with helmet and goggles required. Entry closes July 31, 1951, and rules are available at local auto dealers.

Cordes to Be Ordained at First Baptist Church

George Cordes of Eldora faces examination by a council of pastors and laymen at First Baptist Church to decide on ordination to the Gospel ministry. A public ordination will follow Monday evening with Rev. Robert Foster of Wheaton College delivering the message. Cordes, 24, a Wheaton College graduate, previously Elk Eldora High School 1945 and served in the army, including time in India.

Mrs John L Sheldon Dies At 72 In Eldora Point Pleasant

Mrs. John L Sheldon aged 72 longtime Eldora resident died at her home Tuesday afternoon in Point Pleasant. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Point Pleasant church with Rev Alva Ragsdale and Rev E F Peters officiating. Burial followed in Rough Woods cemetery. She was born Maude Grace Lindsay July 12 1878 at Eldora and married John L Sheldon April 8 1896, later moving to Point Pleasant. The couple observed their 56th wedding anniversary in April. She is survived by her husband six children 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was a member of the Eldora Church of Christ before transferring membership to Point Pleasant Community church. Mr and Mrs Sheldon moved to Eldora in 1944 and have remained there. Mrs Sheldon suffered a stroke on Nov 5 1950 leaving her bedfast.

Beverly Petty Becomes Extension Office Clerk Assistant

Beverly Petty a 1949 Eldora high school graduate started Thursday as clerk assistant in the Hardin county extension office located in the post office area Miss Petty daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Petty of Eldora attended Iowa State Teachers college for two years In the extension office position she will succeed Mrs Wallace Upton who will continue her duties a few more weeks before moving to Charles City where her husband is employed

Schultz to Receive Technician Degree

E Schultz son of Mr and Mrs Edward Schultz of Eldora will graduate from Milwaukee School of Engineering on June 22 with a radio and television technician certificate. He earned a Eldora high school diploma in 1947 after military service. He will visit Eldora after graduation, then join Westinghouse and attend a six month training in Baltimore to become a radar engineer, possibly overseas.

Betty Willig, a 1951 Eldora High School graduate, is employed in the office of County Attorney Lester E. Ose. She worked part time for Ose during her senior year as a commercial student.

Fair group backs new Eldora auditorium on fairgrounds

At a Hardin County Fair Board meeting in Eldora, members debated remodeling the north stock pavilion versus building a new dedicated auditorium. They favored a new structure but requested definite plans, costs, and financing. A resolution urged studies on county and society funding while noting space remains adequate for livestock. An architect estimated a 50 by 122 foot building could be converted for about 15 000 dollars, with the National Production Authority capping yearly expenditures at 6 000 dollars for such a project.

City Council Grants Several Permits

Eldora city councilmen approved multiple permits in a special session Monday night. Cigarette permits were awarded for Benning's Kozy Cafe and Bremmer's Drug Store, plus a beer license for the American Legion club. A plumber's bond for Montgomery Ward Co. was approved after paying a $26 annual license fee, and several water permits were also approved.

Dairy Princess County Contest Plans Revealed

Details on the Hardin County Dairy Princess contest were released after committee members met the county fair board. The county winner will be crowned Sept 6 at the fair and advance to the state judging for the Iowa Dairy Empress at the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Water, with a $100 bond prize. Unmarried county women ages 17 to 23 may sponsor or enter, judged on beauty, accomplishments, poise, personality and talent. Sponsors include the Hardin County Dairy Products Improvement association and the fair board with local dairy interests assisting.

Eldora High School Alumni Association schedules the annual picnic for Sunday July 1 at 1 p.m. on the north side of Getty Park. Providence Votes School Project By 571 Margin

New Providence residents approved a $30,000 bond issue for school building improvements by a 57 to 1 margin in a special election. J C Whitehead said the board will canvass the vote and plan to complete the project by fall with bids for construction contracts and bond sales to follow. Russell J Prescott, town architect, drafts plans to remodel the gym area and add a large visual aid room, two grade rooms, and a commercial room.

Pheasants Arrive for Pine Lake Wildlife Club June 23
