Carel Hannuseh, an all state guard on Union-Whitten's state champion girls basketball team, was selected to play in the High School Allstar game at Suirt Lake. She earned a spot on the East team and played Tuesday night after a Monday event.
Gilbert defeated Steamboat Rock 11 to 9 to win the Invitational softball tournament at Eldora playground Sunday. Earlier results: Cine Lake 9 over Crosley's 7, Steamboat 5, Eldora Bowl 2 over Gilberts 3, Owasa 1 over Radcliffe 0. Second round Steamboat 1 over? Vine Lake 9, Gilbert 2, Owasa 1.
Seve Palmitier delivered a two run single that capped a four run fifth inning rally as the Braves beat the Giants 64 in Eldora Life League title playoff. The comeback followed a late inning sequence featuring walks and passed balls, securing the victory.
Jack Clemons scored after a first inning walk and Craig Piamond followed with a third inning free pass. The Braves had one hit but leveraged walks and errors to win. Jerry Prammond homered after Gary Sharpshair’s first inning single. Hammond stole home in the fourth after a walk. Tom Clary and Tim Rudolph added base runners. The Giants’ batters benefited from Hammond’s triple but Hammond was cut down at home on a double. The Cilants coached by Zielske Luiken and Swisten finished the first half Life League undefeated 5-0, then led the second half with a 41 mark to set up the playoff. The Litt le League all-stars beat the managers 8-3. team roster includes Travisone Cole Setchell Ridout Gast Dagit Crosser Shortley Kelley Nance Dagit Crosser Putnam Hammond and McStockard. Umpires were Ryan Crosser Dagit and Zielske. All players enjoyed a watermelon feed after the game.
The Iowa River Men’s Softball League tournament starts Monday night at Eldora and Steamboat Rock. Eldora matches feature Training T. Goodknight and Murphy, with Crews and Palmitier listed among players. Steamboat Rock hosts Mine Lake in a double elimination format. Eldora Bowl beat Town Training School 168 in extra innings Wednesday.
An open house is planned Saturday at the United Suppliers fertilizer plant east of the Eldora airfield. A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for 1 pm followed by public tours until dark. Deal details not clear from the text.
