Fourth annual art show at Hubbard Conservation event

Judging will be held Saturday April 22 at Hubbard Recreation Club with closed judging Saturday afternoon. Public exhibition Sunday April 23 from 1 to 5 p.m. Entries accepted Saturday 9 a.m. to noon. Clean-up Week Begins in Eldora Sponsored by City and Chamber

Eldora holds a city wide cleanup from Monday April 24 through Saturday April 29 sponsored by the Eldora Chamber of Commerce and the City of Eldora. Residents are urged to clean yards remove fire hazards paint and repair homes plant flowers and place debris curbside for city pickup with separate burnable and non burnable items. North of Edgington Avenue curbside by 8 am Monday and south of Edgington by 8 am Tuesday with pickups 8 am to 11 30 am and 3 am to 11 30 am respectively. Retailers are asked to sweep sidewalks at closing to aid gutter cleaning by city crews.

Open House at Union Library Edifice

Open house for the Union Public Library new 30 by 40 foot facility in Union will be Sunday April 23 from 2 to 5 p m. The building includes library space and a basement meeting room and was built by volunteers funded by a Kinney Lindstrom Foundation grant plus local matching funds. Librarian is Mrs Paul Glenney and library board president is Mrs Joe Knight.

Eldora Junior-Senior Prom and Art Exhibit Planned

The annual Eldora junior senior prom and banquet are set for Saturday April 29 at the Hardin County Youth Building fairgrounds in Eldora. Organized by the Paint and Palette Dabblers of Hubbard and Sketch and Stir Art Club of Hardin County. During May selected entries will be displayed at the Hardin County Courthouse in Eldora.

Eldora School Hires Two Instructors For 1972-73 Term

Eldora Community School hired two new instructors for the 1972-73 term. William Hyde, 29, will teach vocal music after earning an MA in choral literature from the University of Iowa and teaching in Barnum, Iowa. Ivan Miller, 23, joins Eldora elementary art after graduating from Penn State College in Nebraska and Grundy Center High School.

Just Us Fourth At Rhythm Festival In Sioux City

The Eliora rock band Just Us finished fourth among ten Midwest contestants at the 1972 EMNS Rhythm Festival in the Sioux City Auditorium on Sunday April 16. They performed for about 3000 Sioux City youths and earned 75 dollars prize money. Members listed include John Fonken, Dave Jensen, Mike Chamness, Gary Rolph, Ed Silhacek, and Art Munsinger.

Local GOP Fund-Raising Dinner Planned in Eldora

Hardin County Republicans announce a fundraising dinner at the Eldora youth building on May 6 with speaking slots for announced candidates. Interested hopefuls should contact Mrs. Robert Roelfsema to be included, with further details to come.

Maudlin Construction Company of Webster City won the bid for 84 950 tons of gravel to be laid on Hardin county roads. The total bid was 124 203 75 dollars with work starting June 1 and finishing October 4. Charlie Brown Musical to Play at Eldora High School

The University of Northern Iowa Music Theater spring production You're a Good Man Charlie Brown will be staged at Eldora High School gym on Wednesday April 26 at 8 p.m. The UNI tour will visit eight Iowa communities with funding from the Iowa Arts Council and UNI. Clark Gesner wrote the show based on the Peanuts comic strip.

Youth Natural Resource Day Preps Sites in Hardin County

Steering committee members for the second annual Youth Natural Resource Day plan classroom site preparations in Hardin county for Friday April 28. The study will involve all Hardin county sixth graders at Pine Lake Wildlife Club Eldora, Conservation Headquarters near Town Falls, and Reece Memorial Park New Providence. Topics include air land water plants and animals with environmental pollution discussed across subjects.

Champion Cake Auction Tops Eldora Chamber Banquet

Sixteen decorated cakes auctioned at the Eldora Chamber of Commerce banquet raising over 240 dollars at the Hardin County Youth Building. A cake decorated by Mrs. Marvin Bellinghausen sold for 20 dollars to Kenneth Larson, while Orville Gatto n bought the top cake for 32 dollars. Auctioneer was Gregg Reisinger. the program featured Harold Dettbarn as Master of Ceremonies and reviews of 1971 activities.

Eldora Woman Injured In Liscomb Collision Monday

Mrs. Donald Bartholomew of Eldora was hurt in a car pickup crash about one mile east of Liscomb at 9 30 a m while returning from Marshalltown. She has a fractured right leg and head injury and is in satisfactory condition at Marshalltown Community Hospital East. John Leise of Liscomb, driver of the pickup, is in satisfactory condition with back injuries and abrasions. No passengers were present. The Iowa Highway Patrol is investigating.

113 Hardin Cases At MH Center March Report

Statistical reports from the Mental Health Center of Mid Town in Marshalltown show 113 Hardin county cases in March. Of these, 30 are children and 83 are adults. February carried 115 cases, with seven new admissions, two reopenings, and 11 closures.

Good Neighbor Deed Monday At Granner Farm

Thirteen neighbors and relatives helped Monday April 17 at the Stanley Granner farm to disc 170 acres for bear cod corn ground. Assistants included Robert Orgell, Robert Hornung, Harold Dubberke, Robert Klemme, Gene Dubberke, Henry Jensen, Kermit Wiechmann, Gene Roberts, Will Tintjer Jr., George Faust, Keith Bachman, Basil Bachman and Robert Granner. Held Inc of Hubbard supplied a tractor and disc. Mrs Granner with Mrs Keith Bachman served lunch. Granner has been hospitalized at Eldora Community Hospital since April 4 after a heart attack.
