Hubbard girl wins Iowa's Favorite Farmer's Daughter 1974
Julie Usehkrat of Hubbard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Low ell Aschkrat, was announced as Iowa's Favorite Farmer's Daughter for 1974 after a year of applications interviews and a televised final. She received a $4 cash award a $200 wardrobe luggage set color TV and AM FM radio and plans to attend Iowa State University. Julie will make appearances for Iowa Electric and WMT at fairs and events and will pick out clothes on May 18 in Cedar Rapids.

Grassley and Stanley Win Straw Votes in GOP Caucus
In Hardin county precinct caucuses Monday night Town Rep Dave Stanley of Muscatine and Rep Charles Grassley of Waterloo led straw polls for the Iowa Senate and U S House nominees. Grassley took seven votes to Case’s one and Milligan’s three while Stanley had five over Milligan. Three precincts backed Grassley and Stanley unanimously. Caucus results also named precinct committeemen and delegates to the June county convention.

To Girls State KIRBY ROELFSEMA, daughter of Mr and Mrs Ro bert Roelfsema of Steamboat Rock, has been chosen to represent Hoover-Eiserman Post 542 of the American Legion Auxiliary at Hawkeye Girls State. A 20 mile charity walk on April 27 links Eldora and Town Falls Jaycee clubs. Eldora Jaycees, wives, and students start at 8 a.m. on the high school grounds, collecting sponsor pledges for each mile. Proceeds go to the March of Dimes with a club challenge to raise the most funds.

Hardin county and Eldora residents shopped locally boosting gross sales from $31,287,780 in December 1972 quarter to $43,271,382 in the December 1973 quarter, an increase of $12,154,602. Eldora's gain reached $1,208,?08, rising from $6,974,597 to $8,182,08, while other towns in the county posted sizable rises in total retail sales tax paid.
