Grand Jury Urges Wing Plan for County Home
Hardin County Grand Jury urged supervisors to study adding a second floor to the county home’s new wing to separate mental patients from the indigent. The panel noted the wing has basement and ground floor space and would provide adequate segregation. The jury also found area jails at Eldora Iowa Falls Ackley and Alden generally adequate though sheriff’s residence sections need painting. A canopy over the south jail entry was recommended to reduce ice and water buildup. Signed by Grand Jury foreman Alton Johns.

Long and Kauffman remain in executive roles after 50 years of service, both now 15 years old. Valerie Clemons infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Warren Clemons Eldora died at an Iowa City hospital Wednesday night after birth Aug 4 1959 heart condition. Survived by four brothers and four sisters. Mabe Indicted By Grand Jury
Mabe of Union indicted Monday by the Hardin County Grand Jury on theft of 150 bushels of shelled corn while employed by R L Bixby. He allegedly took the corn from Hixby’s farm west of Union to his own place nearby and will be arraigned in district court Monday April 25, with Carl Smedal of Ames to represent him.

Hire Farm Man At Training School Eldora
James Hurd formerly of Clarksville has been hired as assistant to the vocational agriculture instructor at the Iowa State Training School for Boys in Eldora. He began early this month and will manage general farming and poultry duties, replacing Charles Hinkley. Hurd has farmed for about 20 years and holds a B A degree. No decision yet on moving his wife and children to Eldora.

The seventh district Iowa Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association held a spring meeting at Blanche and Ethel's Tea Room in Eldora with about 30 members present. Kenneth Murdock of Marion, president of the state association, attended with his wife. District members hail from Hardin Boone Grundy Hamilton Marshall Story Tama and Webster counties. The state champion FFA parliamentary procedure team from Eldora performed before the business meeting. Gilbert Chris Christian son who coached Eldora girls to state runner up title has been chosen to lead the girls basketball session of the Tennessee High School Athletic Association clinic at Cookeville on July 26. Clay Stapleton and two Ames State University assistants will run football sessions from July 26 to 29. Tennessee’s second state tournament follows the Iowa model. Christianson was named by the Iowa Girls Athletic Union board and will be joined by Wayne Cooley executive secretary of the Girls Athletic Union.

Three-Man Brawl Near Iowa Falls Jungle Lands One in Hospital
A trio of transients fought Monday near the Rock Island Depot known as the Hobo Jungle in Iowa Falls. Carl M. Wallace, 61, of Plattsville Wisconsin, was beaten and found near the Conoco plant and later moved to Des Moines Vets Hospital. Dellano Bergeson, 23, Duluth Minnesota, and Jack Koppinger, 37, Oklahoma armless Indian, are jailed on $5,000 bond each for assault with intent to rob. Bergeson allegedly tried to steal a car and beat Wallace. Authorities planned arraignment next Monday in district court.

Rites Held For August Bocke In Hubbard
Memorial services were held Tuesday in Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church Hubbard for August Conrad Boeke 81 died at Elsworth Memorial Hospital in Iowa Falls. Burial followed at Hubbard Cemetery with Rev. Arthur Kruetamann officiating. He was born November 4 1878 in Lipne Detmold Germany and lived in Hubbard most of his life. He and Augusta Glidemeister married February 25 1903 and had three children Arthur Esther and Newa. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1953 and ran several businesses in Hubbard. Survivors include the three children two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
