Eldora youths win R T carrier scholarships
Rick Barnard son of Mr and Mrs Paul Barnard and Tim Zimmermann son of Rev and Mrs John Zimmermann of Eldora win $800 carrier scholarships from the Des Moines Register and Tribune. Barnard also receives a $600 college fund. The two sophomores were among 16 statewide winners chosen on scholastic record citizenship traits service to customers sales record and money handling. Scholarship awards will be presented at a Savery Hotel banquet in Des Moines on Friday May 6, with families and school officials attending.

Jared Marsh of Union was elected chair of the Hardin Soil Conservation District at a recent organizational meeting. He succeeds Dean Kelne, with Reece of New Neek as the third member. Vernon Buckeye and Eileen Hyland reappointed as secretary and clerk respectively. The six-year terms begin, with a new commissioner chosen every two years. Owasa Voters Split On Hubbard Reorganization
A Herald report notes in two surveys last week that 47 Owasa school district voters favored reorganizing with Hubbard. In the school board conducted survey 21 chose Eldora, 21 chose Iowa Falls, 57 ballots were not properly answered. The board has not yet determined significance as no meeting followed final counts. The district mailed 193 letters to about 410 voters yielding 146 responses.

Bank Open House Draws 500 Attendees At Union-Whitten
