Welden seeks fourth term in Louisiana House race

R W Dick Welden of Iowa Falls announces candidacy for Republican nomination for District 10 in the August 1 primary. His district will include north Hardin County and parts of Franklin and Wright counties. Welden, a longtime Hardin County resident and businessman, previously served on the Iowa Falls board of education and civic groups. his wife Ruth attends First Methodist Church in Town Falls.

Plans for Hardin County Conservation Art Contest

Plans are complete for the Hardin County Conservation Art Contest to be held April 22 and 23, announced by District Conservationist Richard L. Bassett. Entries must be delivered April 22 at Hubbard Recreation Center, 9 am to noon, with display open April 23 from 1 to 5 pm. Any Hardin County resident from elementary to adult may enter. blanks and rules available at local banks, the Soil Conservation Office, or Sketch and Stir or Paint and Palette Dabblers clubs. Winning entries will be displayed at the Hardin County Court House in May.

Antique Show and Sale At Steamboat Rock

Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Kruse will manage the third annual Antique Show and Sale at the Iowa River Conservation and Improvement Club near Steamboat Rock. The two day event runs Saturday April 22 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday April 23 from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Dealers come from Des Moines Ft. Dodge Dike Ackley Omaha Marshalltown and beyond. Antiques primitives collectibles coins furniture glassware and other items will be on display and sale. Food will be served on grounds with camping facilities and free parking.

Ruhnke Named To U of I Orientation Council

Mary Ruhnke daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert Ruhnke of Eldora and a sophomore at the University of Iowa was named to the U of I Orientation Council the group of 15 students to plan and supervise programs for new students next year The council will oversee orientation activities select about 200 student leaders and stay in touch with freshmen to aid their adjustment to university life.

Lights Shot Out at Eldora Airport

Eldora Police report four overhead lights over power lines at the Eldora airport were shot out sometime Tuesday afternoon or night, prompting an investigation by local authorities.

George Paterni 66 dies en route to Grundy County Memorial Hospital after a heart attack. Funeral at Wellsburg Reformed Church Friday at 1 30 p m with Rev Gideon Wolbrink officiating. Registration for the 1972-73 New Providence Community School kindergarten will be held Friday, April 14 starting at 1 30 p m. Children must be five years old on or before September 15, 1972 to enroll. Registration will take place at the New Providence school.

Eldora High School presents How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying Friday and Saturday April 14 and 15 in the new gym under Curt Noble. Volunteers to Walk 20 Mile Charity StretCH TM Walk

Eldora Jaycees and community volunteers plan a 20 mile charity walk from Eldora to Iowa Falls on April 15. Local sponsors pay per mile to benefit the Hardin County Chapter of the March of Dimes. Checkpoints stamp walkers cards, with refreshments and rest periods along the route. Project chair Steve Neorotist coordinates with Wilson Hadley and others.

Hotel Dining Lounge Opens Here Monday

The Eldora Hotel will open its remodeled dining room and lounge on Monday April 17. The dining room in the former lobby seats 50 and will serve 6 am breakfasts, noon lunches, and evening dinners daily. A grand opening is planned. Poetry Class at Wellsburg Library

Lloyd R. Smith urged taxpayers’ rights and government efficiency to about 60 Hardin County Young Republicans at the Pine Lake Country Club. Hanover was re-elected chairman, with Strahorn as vice chair, and special Golden Eagle awards given to longtime supporters.

Second Youth Natural Resource Day Set In Hardin

Hardin County plans a day long Outdoor Class for sixth graders from all Hardin schools on Friday April 28 weather permitting. If rain the event moves to Friday May 5. Sites include Pine Lake Wildlife Club Eldora Rock schools east of Iowa Rock area Reece Memorial Park near New Providence and Conservation Headquarters near Ackley Geneva Town Falls Hubbard New Providence Union-Whitten Radcliffe. Subjects cover land water plants animals and pollution. Students rotate through classes with own lunches notes and pencils. No Injuries In Car-Pickup Crash At 14th Avenue Intersection

A car pickup mishap Monday afternoon at 14th Avenue and 14th Street left no injuries. A 1953 car driven by Richard Steinfeldt of Union was totaled. about $50 damage was listed on the pickup driven by Don Perkins of New Providence. Police officer Dennis Bachman said Perkins traveled north on 14th Street while Steinfeldt went west on 14th Avenue. charges pending.

Car Motorcycle Mishap Reported in Union by Sheriff

Hardin County Sheriff's Office logged a Union collision at 6 15 pm Tuesday at an intersection near Standard Station. George Walt 21 rider east on a motorcycle collided with Debra Risius 18 driver of a southbound car. Walt suffered a knee injury treated at Eldora Community Hospital. Damage estimated at 100 to Walt's Honda and 160 to Risius' Rambler.
