Foreign Students Arrive Tonight For Easter Weekend In Eldora

About twenty foreign students from Iowa State Teachers College arrive in Eldora to spend Easter weekend as Rotary Club guests. Local buses will transport them from Cedar Falls to host homes, with tours of the state training school, a Saturday evening program at the high school, and church services on Sunday. Families hosting include the Meaders, Zimmermanns, Griffels, Janssens, Crosleys, Piper, Browns, Bames, Flicks, Batesons, Cleve lands, and Bekemeiers.

E. Howard Hill, president of the Town Farm Bureau federation, will keynote a Buckeye township Farm Bureau meeting at the community hall next Wednesday evening, April 8. He has served in Iowa and national ag committees and on various boards, including the 4 H foundation and Des Moines Chamber agricultural panel, and has traveled extensively for agricultural study in Europe and South America.

Mrs. A. Stevenson Passes Away In California

Mrs. Andrew Stevenson age 69 died Monday in a Los Angeles hospital after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage December 4. Born Genevieve Hardin August 8 1889, she married in 1905 after Grinnell College. Survived by three sons Andrew James John, daughter Stewart Everson, two brothers J F Hardin and Hal C Hardin, seven grandchildren.

Cash Awards Move to Saturday Nights in Eldora

The cash awards schedule shifts to Saturday nights at 8:00 starting April 11. A top prize of 125 dollars will run alongside six 10 dollar awards on April 11. No awards are planned for next Wednesday afternoon. Eldora retailers approved the change to accommodate farm families, with the Chamber of Commerce noting the move will continue for several weeks. Wednesday afternoon winners include Mrs. Ray McAllister at Piper's Newsstand and Mrs. Clara Raske at Harrison's.

Cottage Converts Abandoned School House Into Community Center

In Hardin County the old Cottage schoolhouse Ellis No. 8 near Buckeye Owa Eldora Town Falls has been transformed into a community gathering space after a March 17 school board vote. Proceeds from auctions on March 17 and 27 covered a used gas stove and 48 chairs, with a small user fee to cover utilities. The building will host Cemetery Society events and polling township meetings, uniting neighbors from four telephone exchanges and several churches.

Career Day at Eldora School Next Wednesday

Eldora High School hosts its annual Career Day on April 8 with about 490 students from Whitton Owasa Union New Providence Radcliffe Hubbard Alden and Steamboat Rock expected. Activities include sessions with 15 colleges and armed forces reps, keynotes by Dr Ray Bryan and Roland Ross, and panels on teaching agriculture accounting architecture journalism law medicine and more.

Eldora postoffice is slated to become first class on July 1, 1954 per postmaster W.R. Bahne. 1953 postal receipts are expected at $42,000, $2,000 over the first class threshold, with 1952 figures surpassed by a $500 gain in the first quarter of this year.

Lighting Upgrade Begins at County Fair Track

Installations of lighting equipment at the county fairgrounds race track are set to start Monday. Fair board secretary Wilson Hadley reported that both lights and poles will be installed and, with good weather, the project should be finished as soon as possible.

Easter Parade Show Highlights Mother-Mashion Creations

Nullify New Wellsburg School District

Two petitions filed in Grundy County district court challenge the December 11 1952 consolidation of the Wellsburg district alleging irregularity and illegality in the preliminary steps and election. Eldora would add five sections by consolidation vote

A special election will be held next Monday in Eldora and Melrose No. 4 to decide merging the districts. Polls open at the courthouse in Eldora from noon to 7:00 pm and at E. V. Reece residence in Melrose No. 4 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Approval requires a majority in both districts.
