Applications Open For Judicial Board Elections

Applications for members of the student judicial boards will be available soon for the November 16 election. The two boards will have six members and three alternates each, with eligibility requiring at least a 2.0 average and no academic or social probation. Petitions due two weeks before the election must include 35 signatures and a 250 word statement of qualifications.

Senators Reject Hixson Drinking Policy Committee

Senate rejected President Chip Hixson’s proposal for a drinking policy study committee citing need for more upperclassmen on the panel. New members will be appointed and submitted for approval. Dwight Louden presented proposed qualifications for student judicial boards. Henry Hamman moved to bar student staff from serving, a motion defeated after debate that staff involved in discipline would self disqualify from cases. Election of board members set for Nov. 13. The Plan for Student Discipline amendments passed 506 to 30. Faculty and administrators would be ex officio nonvoting members, not regular members. Finalists for freshman class officers announced. A temporary parliamentarian is sought to replace Sandee Storey during student teaching. Informal coffee for students hosted by President Horner. Perspectives on America to Feature Communications Theme

The Perspectives on America program runs November 14 to 16 with a communications theme. Maxwell Poland leads the event with six major addresses and post talk discussions led by two to three speakers per session. Notable visitors include Newsweek’s Mel Elfin, Henry Loomis, and Oscar Lubow of Young and Rubicam.

Two Hanover Coeds Killed In Nashville Auto Crash

Hanover College mourns two students Billie Gay Gillette and Margaret Kay Meek killed in a Nashville Indiana auto crash last Friday evening. Meek drove the car, struck a guard rail, and collided with another vehicle. Gillette was thrown from the car. Gillette, a senior mathematics major active in Campus Fellowship and Women’s Recreation, and Meek, a Kokomo High School graduate, lived in the Hall and were Alpha Delta Pi members. Funeral services were held Tuesday and a memorial vesper was held Wednesday in the college chapel.

U N Week Assembly Speaker At Indiana University Chapel

Professor Walter Laues of Indiana University will address the U N Week assembly on October 26. Laues, a government department professor, advised the U S delegation in San Francisco on U N setup. He will lunch with Hanover delegation members after the event. Earlier, Dr James Armstrong of Broadway Methodist Church Indianapolis spoke in Thursday’s chapel.

Philosopher Julian Marias to Speak at Campus Lecture

The Spanish Department hosts Julian Marias a noted Spanish philosopher as guest speaker Saturday at 1 30 p m in the Campus Center Faculty Dining Room. He will lecture in Spanish on Miguel de Unamuno and has published on Ortega y Gasset the Generation of 98 and related topics.

Federal Income Debate Topic At Tri-State Intercollegiate Meet

Nine teams from the tri state area travel to Hanover for an inter collegiate forensics competition on the question should the federal government guarantee a minimum annual cash income to all citizens. Hanover College hosts in Parker Auditorium with rounds from 9 39 to 4 15.

Dean Tightens Parking Rules Near Campus Center

Dean Glen L. Bonsett issued a memorandum tightening parking for resident students. The plan removes parking on the north side of the street near the Campus Center Library and Lynn Gym due to increased pedestrian traffic, pending further review of Lynn Gym's lot capacity. Bonsett noted many students have not registered their cars and warned unregistered vehicles may be ordered home.
