Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations chair Frank Bane will visit Hanover College Sunday through Tuesday, funded by the Murray Seasongood Good Government Fund and the Public Affairs Forum. Students view slides of old Japan in assembly
Miss Betty Jane Engleman presented a slide show on modern Japan to the Monday assembly. She drew parallels between the United States and Japan, noted Tokyo department stores and stall shops, explained Shinto and Buddhist shrines, and spoke of geisha customs and atomic bomb memorials. Engleman has spent three years in Japan and traveled widely, urging awareness of the “ugly American” image. She serves on Indiana University’s personnel staff as director of Towers living quarters.
