Manitoba Gasoline Pricing Inquiry Tabled in House
The final report of the 1986 Commission of Inquiry into Manitoba gasoline pricing was tabled by Jim McCrae. Dr Costas Nicolaou found weak price competition leading to higher prices and urged government action to boost retail and wholesale competition or use price regulation as a last resort. He proposed a wholesale fuel agency sourcing from low cost areas and government set up retail outlets leased to independents. McCrae said monitoring will continue and Co op gas bar program remains in place.
