Quackgrass threat hits western Canadian farms
Tim Weber of Redfern Farm Services in Hamiota warns quackgrass is Canada’s worst perennial weed, cutting yields even in light infestations. He cites losses of up to 10 bushels per acre, or about 32 dollars per acre at 3.25 per bushel, unless controlled. He favors Roundup for full root and rhizome destruction and notes a price drop boosts value this spring. Ignoring patches risks rapid spread and greater future losses.
