Measure Would Increase Garnishment Exemptions
Winnipeg Attorney General Mercier tabled a bill to raise wage garnishment exemptions from 100 to 250 dollars monthly for individuals without dependents and from 165 to 350 for those with dependents. The proposal also lifts alimony garnishment from 100 to 250, aligns with Law Reform Commission ideas, and extends the seven day limit to one month and sets a one day grace before effect.
