Legion Auxiliary Meet at Hamiota
The Hamiota Ladies Legion Auxiliary met in the Community Room on Tuesday February 27 with fourteen members present. They opened with colours and O Canada, approved minutes, heard the treasurer, and decided to send $25 to Deer Lodge Hospital for the magazine fund. Alice Pedlow presented Mrs Mildred Hazelwood with a 25th year pin. A social time followed with a lunch.

Kachan Tops Local Bonspiel At Hamiota Open
Hamiota hosted the 84th annual men’s bonspiel closing Sunday March 4 after 64 rinks competed. Randy Kachan skipped the winning foursome to take the Campbell Flowers Trophy for undefeated play while eight local rinks claimed prizes across four events.

Government Buys Tantalum Shares From M D C
Winnipeg government acquires 250000 shares or 25 percent of Tantalum Mining Corporation of Canada from Manitoba Development Corporation for 1.5 million dollars. Shares will be managed by Manitoba Mineral Resources Limited to support mining operations. Mine remains active with expansion plans by principal owners.

Oak River Ice Show Delights with Circus Theme
Oak River Figure Skating Club staged its annual ice show on March 1 with a Circus theme. The program opened with a Parade of skaters and featured groups such as Elephants Mice Bears Lions Tight Rope Walkers and Fire Twirlers. Solo performances included Elisa the elephant trainer Marvin the Magician and a finale with all children and a closing broomball game.

Oak River W I met in Memorial Hall March 1 with Constable Woodman of the RCMP as guest speaker. He spoke on Juvenile Crime and Restitution and shared Dauphin program insights. Jean Henry presided. Edith Ferguson gave a thought for the day. Plans for a Repair Fair March 20 and a Take Home Irish Supper were announced. Iris Davidson to convene the Cancer Canvass. W.S. trophy set for Kenton March 22.

Wesmen Reach Provincial Final After 9 6 Win
In the second game of the two game total point series Charlie's Wesmen defeated Deloraine 9 6 to advance. Coupe scored a hat trick plus two late empty net goals while Desiatnyk added a hat trick and Robertson two. The defense of Dixon Shindruk Lindberg and Blouin limited Lacy Moir. The win gives the Wesmen a four point margin and an expected final against Winkler or Carman.

Hamiota Health Auxiliary Plans Funds and Staffing Changes
The Women's Auxiliary to the Hamiota Health Center met February 23 with 11 districts represented and agreed to allocate 3000 to a bonus savings account for future nursing home needs. The meeting covered admissions, occupancy at 85.68 percent, outpatient services, therapy visits, ambulance trips, public health contacts, and staffing changes with Mrs. Hadland resigning April 30 and Mr. Sheardown as new administrator. A new rule restricts home care to licensed RNs.
