Postemergence Nitrogen and Ear Tag Guidance for Farmers
Dry soil this spring may delay nitrogen use and reduce crop uptake. If rain comes, apply postemergence nitrogen, preferably 28 0 0 as a surface strip and just before rain. avoid hot dry conditions and wet foliage. Canola flax corn and sunflower are sensitive to leaf burn from nitrogen sprays. Early ear tagging of cattle with insecticide ear tags is advised to curb horn fly populations through the season, with synthetic pyrethroid and organophosphate options and resistance management.
