Hamiota receives JEPP funding for emergency equipment
Brian White presented a 9037 cheque to the Government of Manitoba under the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program JEPP for Hamiota Village and Rural Municipality. Reeve Nelson Wood accepted on behalf of Manitoba. Funds buy hydraulic Jaws of Life air bag system and SCBA for the Hamiota Fire Department to improve response to chemical spills fires and vehicle accidents.

Hamiota opens Friday Farmer's Market June 23 1989
The Farmer's Market in Hamiota begins on June 23 1989 and runs Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Hall parking lot. Arnold Gray handles table space inquiries at 764-2047 and both vendors and buyers are urged to support the market. A pancake breakfast is planned at 7 a.m. on opening day, coinciding with a Sidewalk Sale by the Business Section.

Walk-a-thon and Bike-a-thon in Hamiota This Weekend
Hamiota and District Sports Complex Fund Raising Committee sponsors a walk and bike event at the curling club this Saturday June 10 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants may walk or ride up to 13 miles along a route past the School and Highway 21 with RCMP patrolling and refreshment stops every two miles. Prizes include sweatshirts hats watches and more. pledge sheets and sponsors are requested with calls to Mavis or Judy. Volunteers are welcome and funds collected go to the Credit Union after the event.

School Bids Farewell to Veteran Teacher
Cynthia Brown notes Nora Kirk retires after nearly thirty years in education. She started teaching in her eighteenth year at Elton district for two years, then Douglas School, and Hargrave where she taught all subjects for grades 7 through 11 and served as principal before moving to Hamiota in 1946 for three years before her marriage to Alex Kirk.
