Forest Tent Caterpillars Threaten Local Trees
Farm Notes by Agricultural Representative Bob Gwyer warns that forest tent caterpillars are defoliating trees. Inspect trees before signs appear and spray with Malathion or alternatives like methoxychlor carbaryl or diazinon. For large plots use 50 acre rate plus water. monitor for rapid defoliation and consult the Agricultural Office for aerial applicator lists. Flea beetles on Rapeseed and Mustard require regular checks and multiple Guthion or Faradan applications as conditions allow.
