Firearm Safety Fee Set in Manitoba Training Program

The Manitoba government will charge a $3 fee to hunter and firearm safety course participants to cover volunteer instructors' expenses. Instructors will collect the fee. no revenue goes to the government. The department will still provide instructional materials at no charge. Class size will be limited to 25, with a 50 cap in exceptional cases, and more staff will attend courses to maintain quality. Since 1964 over 56,000 have completed the program, mandatory for first hunting licence applicants and youths under 19. Manitoba has earned a regional quality award nine of the last 11 years.

The Manitoba Government with federal cooperation will start a program to train up to 10 Indian and Metis constables for Indian reserves and adjacent communities. The effort aims to enhance policing by providing trained indigenous officers and improving public safety across reserves in Manitoba.

Dust Suppression Surges on Manitoba Gravel Roads

Manitoba’s Highways Department reports a sharp rise in dust control for gravel roads using calcium chloride and used motor oil. By May 7 this year 186 tons of calcium chloride and 72 000 gallons of used oil had been deployed, with 12 units on patrol and farmstead buffer stretches. The program aims to reduce dust near farm buildings and has drawn participation from communities including Boissevain Holland Souris Brandon Virden and Inglis among others.

Hogeland Family Reunion For Wilf’s 80th Birthday

In Hamiota on May 30 the Hogeland family celebrated Wilf’s 80th birthday with about 34 descendants attending a buffet at two o’clock. Maurice proposed a toast and gave a stereo as a gift. On June 2, Wilf spent a quiet afternoon with his sister Mrs Edna Smith and sisters-in-law Mrs Mary Knight and Mrs Ruth Wilson of Hamiota.
