Utility wheat study notes mixed results for Prairie farms
Agriculture Canada and Palliser Wheat Growers Association report on a utility wheat study. Poor growing conditions reduced reliability, with utility wheat yielding 13.2 percent more on average than hard red spring, but at higher costs. Glenlea and Pitic 62 show varied suitability by region and drought tolerance. 226 Palliser members participated, spanning Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Alberta, aided by Saskatchewan Agriculture, University of Saskatchewan, and Pioneer Grain Company.
