Fat Stock Show and Sale Held at McConnell Grounds

The Fat Stock and 4H show and sale took place Saturday June 28 at McConnell show grounds with a good turnout. Eight 4H calves were shown led by judge Sid Kent of Kenton. John Thompson exhibited a 1020 pound Simmental Shorthorn that won champion and the McConnell Pool Elevator Trophy. The W. I. Trophy and Manitoba Shorthorn Trophy were also awarded. Sale prices reached 6075 to the Hamiota Co op for the champion steer and 58.75 per hundredweight for the reserve crossbred steer sold to Bob White of Shoal Lake.

Golf Tournament Winners at Hamiota Names of Champions

The Hamiota golf tournament drew 98 entrants over July 5 and 6. Championship Flight winner Bruce Penton posted 64, with Garbolinsky second at 66 and Bill Whitton third at 69. Flight winners include Harvey Duncan 72 in 1st Flight and Lorne Richardson 72 in 2nd Flight, with Russell Brown 76 taking 3rd Flight top honors. Also listed are junior and senior judging prizes and Fat Stock Show awards with multiple winners and trophy purses.

Couple Farewell Soiree In Pitlochry For Departing Bernard Millers

Neighbors gathered at Mrs. Jim Knolish Tune 29th to bid farewell to the Bernard Miller family as they prepare to move to Minnedosa. Mrs. Ross Robertson sent best wishes for the neighbors, while Mr. Jim Frazer gave a clock. Gifts included a swag lamp end table clothes hamper and a 2 piece bath set. Bernard thanked everyone and invited visits to Minnedosa. A lunch concluded a pleasant evening.

Canadian Authors Association gathering in Edmonton honors Manitoba writers

Nearly 300 CAA members gathered in Edmonton in June 2024 for the organization’s first name based meeting. Manitoba, led by Winnipeg and towns like Portage la Prairie and Hamiota, had strong representation and lively discussions on Canadian literature.
