River Board and Teachers in Impasse Over Wages and Benefits
The Rolling River Board of the River School Division reports an impasse with the Rolling River Teachers Association over wages. The union seeks 13.1 percent plus 1.3 percent in increments totaling 456000 for salaries and 55000 for a public dental plan, plus 200 days sick leave, two weeks Christmas holidays, and payment for unused sick days. This would push taxes higher by 13 mills or 65 dollars on a 5000 dollar home. The Board offers 11.3 percent, including 10 percent cost of living and 1.3 percent increments, totaling 358000 for an average 2651 per teacher. The present average salary is 23386 with a payroll of 3157175. The Manitoba average for 1980 is 23180. A Conciliation Officer will be sought to reach an agreement.
