Gerry Malaher, famed Manitoba naturalist, receives the Order of the Buffalo Hunt from Premier Sterling Lyon for lifelong service. He joined the Manitoba Forest Service in 1930, directed Game and Fisheries from 1946 to 1967, and helped found the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature and Manitoba Zoological Society. Mrs Malaher stands with the inductee.

Johnston's Golden Excuse as Hamiota Skates to Victory
Johnston and Melinda Kunheghi of Preston win the junior pairs crown at the Central Divisional figure skating championships in St James with 67.24 points, edging Mary Jo Fedy and Tim Mills. The Preston pair advance to Halifax nationals. Johnston also leads in junior men after a flawless short program.
