Venice reports the Ladies Aid Society under Mrs. Harry Weinmeyer held a well attended quilting gathering. Plans include an all day event at the church on Thursday December 1 with a covered dish luncheon and a meeting to follow. Christmas baskets for needy families will be filled by the Service class and distributed before Christmas, with gifts of food and toys requested.

In Pike county a 42 year old timber cutter died when a falling tree struck him. The Sommers brothers, longtime Portsmouth hardware merchants, are deceased. A three month old baby Billy Adkins died after an oil stove exploded in a one room house. In Wellsville the grand jury was to meet to probe a robbery attempt on the Central Building and Loan. Arthur Robinson and John Robinson pleaded guilty to the holdup. Cleveland saw the death of John M. Finan, 62, a leading union official in the painting and decorating trade.

Frazer Friendly Killed by Train at Smith Street Crossing
Frazer Friendly a painter at Oxford-Minini Paper Co was killed when his car stalled on Smith Street crossing the Big Board railroad and was struck by a passenger train at 4 o clock Thursday. Police traced the vehicle path prior to the collision and say the car stalled about 75 feet from the crossing.
