A Grand Marais dispatch reports the steamer Cypress, owned by Lackawanna Transportation Co., wrecked off Deer Park in Lake Superior during a northwest gale. One survivor, lashed to a life raft, is in critical condition. two bodies wash ashore. The vessel carried ore and had a crew of about 23.
San Francisco dispatch reports the steamer Mariposa three days overdue from Pahiti stranded 87 miles off Monterey without fuel. First Mate Watson rowed the distance to Monterey to report the predicament. another steamer was sent to tow the Mariposa toward San Francisco.
George A. Rudolph was arraigned before Judge Dale on a charge of threatening to kill a United States official. He wrote to President Roosevelt promising to come to Washington and kill Vespasian Warner, pensions commissioner. Rudolph was fined 50 dollars and costs. a mental health evaluation was ordered.
At the Reformed church state convention in Bellevue Ohio the trustees of Central Theological Seminary's report urged Dayton as the relocation site. Dayton Tiffin Toledo and Cleveland competed with Dayton seen as the likely choice, offering a fine site and a $15 000 cash bonus.
In Terre Haute on October 12 Mrs. Anna Whitten testifies in a $1,000 slander suit against Frederick Strosser. She says after Strosser found the money he accused her of stealing he offered 25 cents to square matters, which she refused.

Lancaster Ohio October 12 a rambler fraternity overrun the city during the county fair and fled after a sheriff and police raid. They dumped money and gear into bags and escaped on early interurban cars. Four locals were arrested as a crowd threatened the sheriff. he fired to disperse them. Railroad officials seized four pickpockets near Union depot.
Assistant Secretary of State Robert L. Bacon leapt from the Harvard launch Verita and swam to the aid of two capsized canoeists on the Charles River. He saved one boy while the other was rescued by Harvard student J. S. Reed who followed him into the water.
Albert Hartel, who ran a candy stand at the county fair, claims ex employee John Slattery misappropriated 55 during the event while Hartel’s rented building was consumed by fire. Slattery is believed to reside in Dayton Ohio, Hartel’s home.
A collision at Pratt City Alabama between an L N freight and a Frisco passenger train killed Pullman Car Conductor Siwith of Birmingham and injured eight passengers, none fatally, reported from Birmingham on October 12.
In Wellston Ohio on October 12 Edward Obrien seized a dray standard after Lafayette Gillen refused him a ride and crushed Gillen's skull. Gillen is dying from the injuries.

Charles Lang a Cincinnati woodworker fell while intoxicated near Court and Reily streets and struck a curb stone with his forehead. He suffered a severe gash over the left eye and was moved to the police station for surgical attention.

H. A. Jankin reported a bicycle stolen from his place of business on Main Street. It was left in front of the drug store when taken Saturday morning. Police were notified and searched for the wheel after being informed of its possible location.

Columbus Ohio October 12 The body of Mrs Cassie Chadwick who died in Ohio penitentiary women's ward was taken to Woodstock Ontario for burial Accompanied by Emil Hoover and Mrs J W Weston plans for the service were not announced Public interest ran high as the casket lay in an undertaker’s shop and Ms Weston spoke of her sister’s lifelong wealth pursuit. Emil Hoover offered no light on her finances. Mrs Chadwick left a will but probate is unlikely.
The board reports a total balance of about $10,350.42 after adding $6,000 in interest at Miami Valley National Bank. Expenditures include $1,000 for bond redemption and $900 in interest on bonded indebtedness.
A south bound Cincinnati Northern Traction Co. trolley collided with Don Hooven's car at Hoovendam near Hamilton Saturday evening. Stanley Emerson, 19, of Bellefontaine, an Oxford student with Hooven, died instantly. Hooven was injured.
