Train No 23 on the Southern railway from Atlanta to Birmingham ran into an open switch about 7 PM in Tallapoosa Georgia. Engineer Downey of Atlanta was killed and two firemen were injured. Two engines left the rails and overturned. the postal car derailed while passenger coaches stayed on track. The switch had been tampered with.
