George Rex Clark, blind from birth, graduates from the University of Chicago with an A B degree after a four year course. He learned telegraphy and typewriting, cheered football games, danced at campus dances, and used raised letter books when needed.
August Ringling head of the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey and Forepaw Sells circus combination died in a New Orleans sanitarium after a brief sickness. He had come two weeks earlier hoping the southern climate would aid his health.
On December 13 a Civil War bomb exploded at the old Custom House while worker Michael J. Howell was unloading a stack bound for a fire boat. The blast severed his right arm and left him unconscious. his recovery is reported doubtful.
Secretary Frankel of the National Metal Trades association predicts that about 75 percent of workers laid off in metal trades will be rehired in the first weeks of the new year. He reports that business leaders he spoke with expect a normal, sensible, and sane market after January.
Birmingham December 18 forty three bodies recovered from Yolande mines. Twenty two men, mostly Negroes, remain missing as rescue efforts continue.
Justice Gould in the equity court issued a decree restraining the American Federation of Labor and affiliates from interfering with Buck Stove and Range company business and from declaring or threatening any boycott.
Philadelphia December 18 The directors of the Pennsylvania company which operates the lines west of Pittsburg have raised the dividend on the stock from six to seven percent. They declared the semi annual dividend of four percent. the last semi annual dividend was three percent.
In Gallipolis Ohio on December 18 the tow boat Alice Brown ran into the river bank near Pomeroy and sank five coal boats carrying 100000 bushels of coal bound south.
The schooner Jesse Barlow of Mystic Connecticut was run down and sunk in Pollock Rip Blue by the tug Lehigh last night. The crew was rescued.
Chicago reports the Illinois Central annual meeting scheduled for today was postponed to tomorrow and may be further delayed pending Judge Ball’s injunction case. The event concerns the Harriman Fish fight with Rothschilds of London aiding Mr. Fish.
North Attleboro Mass December 18 The Jewelers National Bank where vice president and cashier Frederick E Sargent was found dead in his bath tub last night failed to open today A notice posted said the bank remains closed pending examination of its affairs The bank capitalization is 190000 and deposits were about a million dollars
The auditor of state ordered Bank of Fowler Fowler Citizens Bank Ambia and Goodland Bank to close under the private banks act. Owners Daniel P. Baldwin and William H. Dague faced action for loans tied to bank investments. No asset or liability details released.
The Ohio Supreme Court appointed Dee Harrison of Darke County and C H Workman of Richland County as state bar examiners on Tuesday evening. Harrison fills an unexpired term and succeeds himself. Workman replaces R R Nevin of Montgomery County.
Springfield O Dec 18 Action at a meeting of law and order forces pledged support for Mayor-elect W R Burnett to enforce laws. Speakers expressed faith in the incoming administration and Burnett pledges.
Judge Ulysses S. Martin ruled Layton Hines's confession admissible. Coroner Seinster Sheriff Bees and County Prosecutor Nevin attended the hearing, deciding the admissions were not obtained unlawfully and could be presented to the jury.

Mrs. John Wilson of Barberton is dying from a pistol wound inflicted by her husband last night. Wilson was arrested after the quarrel that occurred repeatedly.
The new twenty dollar gold piece redesigned to suit bankers is now in circulation. It features a refined eagle and the year 1907, with stars and the phrase E Pluribus Opum. Eight thousand original issues plus 160000 in circulation with collectors buying up eagles.
In Chicago on December 18 the American association offered the Chicago franchise to Jimmy Callahan proprietor of the Logan Squares. Senator McCreary of Kentucky introduced a bill proposing an annual $600,000 appropriation to promote instruction in agriculture, manual training, and domestic science in central state schools.
W A Eldredge, 55, listed residence as Columbus or New York, died by taking strychnine in his room at the Homing hotel yesterday around 5 30 pm. He telephoned the clerk immediately after using the drug.

Report says the Santa Fe Railway has contracted for 5,000,000 railroad dies in Hawaii, the largest such contract shipped by water. Shipments could lead to a freight steamer line between San Pedro and Honolulu, with Southern Pacific possibly placing similar orders. The move comes as dies are scarce in the United States.
United States Steel plans to distribute 10 million dollars to about 47 000 participants through its profit sharing program. Eligible employees receive seven percent preferred stock dividends plus a five dollar annual stock bonus and extra dividends from plan operations. January will bring substantial dividends to original subscribers and early holders.
Miss Maud McCrumb a 23 year old school teacher from Jamestown was attacked on her way home by Charles Summers a 33 year old farmer of Turnersville. Summers fled but was captured and later held for safety as hundreds gathered outside the jail following the assault leaving McCrumb seriously bruised and nearly choked.
Herman Zwicker sued a railroad after being arrested for passing a counterfeit coin at Coney Island. A Mexican half dollar was found genuine and worth $500, and Zwicker received verdict against the railroad for false arrest.
Mrs Lena Lillie beneficiary of a life policy on her deceased husband at the tribe of Ben Har in David City district court was awarded 2500 dollars with interest totaling 3050 dollars. The case drew unusual attention as Lillie was previously convicted of murder in the same court room and later pardoned by Governor Mickey.
