Guyra Shire Council Backing Road Modernisation Plan
The Guyra Shire Council, urged by the engineer’s report, moves to spend £9000 on mechanising road making and maintenance. The plan aims to improve markets access for producers and support future closer settlement, with aviation development and rail junction prospects noted as vital for freight growth. The Minister for Local Government says borrowing funds are available to aid councils in expanding their areas. Guyra leads other councils with forward planning for the era ahead.

Mr J P Abbott and Minister for Commerce and Agriculture state that losses in the New England district were not unique, quotas had little impact as they were lifted after three weeks, yields fell largely to grub infestation floods and poor digging, and crop failure is a normal agricultural risk not the government’s responsibility.
