Phone Hearings On United Telephone Rate Increase

Hearings before the Iowa Commerce Commission addressed United Telephones proposed rate increase filed last August. The company faces questions on business line charges including 14 to 21 dollars per month for two lines, with claims the policy shifts costs to two-line customers. An economist testified profits are confiscatory, asserting rates are too low and returns depend on original plant investment.

Community groups and honors noted in September meeting

A September 13 meeting of local fire department members approved a donation of 300 to the rescue unit. Residents of the AC Community School were recognized for recent honors from the International Chae Practors Association.

Free and Reduced Lunch Use in Guthne County Schools

Guthne county schools served 467026 meals last year averaging about 2600 daily. About 16924 lunches were free or reduced, roughly 10 percent, with Panora Linden highest at 16.4 percent and Bayard lowest at 1.2 percent. Federal reimbursements totaled 5,818 for reduced price lunches plus 43,682 for hot lunch program and 5,387 for milk. commodities reached 340,452 with total lunch program expenditures at 222,235 and income 228,835.

K H Butler turned in a near perfect performance in the Guth man football contest missing only one of 20 games and earning the top $5. Clarinda Reports August Rise in County MHA Admissions

August occupancy at the Clarinda Mental Health Center climbs to a year high with 325 patients hospitalized from 25 counties. On August 31 Guthrie County residents total 4 among the patient count, with admissions spread across June July and August and three discharges during the period.

Howard Jerry Lewis Assume Ford Dealership

Howard Lewis and Jerry Lewis announced a change of ownership at the Ford Mercury dealership. Howard Lewis has been a Ford salesman for 15 years while Jerry Lewis has worked for the Bureau of Internal Revenue for two years. They purchased the garage from Leonard Logsdon, who had owned it since 1960. The transfer accompanied the upcoming 1972 Ford and Mercury model show, with display slated for Friday. Middleton graduates in secretarial work at AIB

Marilyn Middleton, daughter of Mr and Mrs Don Middleton, is among 264 students to graduate from IB in Des Moines on Sunday September 26. She received a diploma in secretarial work and will be employed by State Surety Company in Des Moines.

Manpower Services In Guthrie Center Set To Start

Manpower services will be available in Guthrie Center starting Thursday Oct 21 at 9 30 according to Ralph Cushatt manager of Town State Employment Service of Per Ty The outreach center will assist job ready applicants and others needing transportation or employment prep Cushatt will contact area employers to discuss services and the program will run on the third Thursday of each month with possible expansion as demand grows.

Services Held Saturday For Mrs Cyntha Olmstead

Funeral services for Mrs Cyntha Olmstead aged 89 were held Saturday at 10 am at the Church of Christ in Guthru ne Center with Rev Eugene Lockling officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery. She died Wednesday evening at the New Homestead where she had recently resided. Survivors include two sons Wayne of Guthne Center and Forrest of Omaha, a daughter Mrs Bennet of Dallas Texas, nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. Two brothers Ernest Ruby of Perry Oklahoma and Earl Rubs of Tribune Kansas also survive.

FFA Judging Team Places 30th in National Contest

The Gutine Center FFA judging team finished 30th of 193 at the National Barrow Show in Austin this week. Leader Rick Rodeon scored 351 of 400. teammates Randy Chalfant 348 Doug Sheeder 346 Handy Harwood 330 Adveor Nec Bradley accompanied the team.

Sealing Rates For Farm Stored Grain Announced

Guthrie county ASCS office released sealing rates for stored grain under the Agriculture department. Corn loan rate is 104 per bushel with 157 per hundredweight for sorghum. Oats and beans receive 56 and 220 per bushel respectively. Interest on commodity loans is 344 percent, with interest due monthly on the loan but not after liquidation. Storage rates cover measured car, shelfed grain, and silage.
