Joseph Boots mayor of Linden dies on the Guthrie Dallas county line after a school bus crash that also injures two children and the bus driver. Second Half Taxes Due Before Friday
Payment of second half property taxes is due and payable October 1. County treasurer Charlotte Knauer reported no changes in residence. A late penalty will be assessed after that date. Northwestern Bell boosted county revenue by sending a $15,687 check for the second half of its operating property tax, part of a total Iowa bill of $11,890,197 for the year, reflecting a five-year rise.

Honor Four For Efforts In Cancer Drive

The Audubon Auction Company received a cease and desist order from the US Department of Agriculture under the Packers and Stockyards Act to stop further violations of financial trust accounting and recordkeeping rules. Earlier, P S A alleged liabilities exceeding assets by 158000 and trust account shortages over 219000 in March 1971, but the company now shows current liabilities not exceeding assets and eliminated shortages. The filing of a complaint does not prove violations. the company may request a hearing to contest the charges.

Panora Linden School Bond Issue Set for Next Steps
The Panora Linden school board approved a contract with a Des Moines architectural firm to design a new grade 6–12 building costing unofficially over 750000 dollars. Guthrie Center youth Charles Brettain was charged with driving on a suspended permit after colliding Wednesday at an intersection in Casey with Robert Sullins’s car. Casey damage was $35 to the Sullins vehicle and Brettain’s car at $180. A separate crash at State and Prairie damaged Kent’s car $250 and Randall’s $25.
