Guthrie Center Junior High Awards Honor Eighth Graders
Junior high students at Guthrie Center were honored at a social assembly. Jim Hasbrouck and Shirley Stringham received the citizenship award presented by the American Legion. Four students won DAR awards chosen for history grades. Lee Mosier mathematics award went to Cindy Rosenberger. Special awards went to Mark Hunt Stephen Scott Cheryl Crabbs Mary Leib Kathy Sheeder and Kris Sheeder.

Guthrie 4-H Delegates Attend State Conference at ISU
Eight Guthrie county 4-Hers were named delegates to the 1971 state 4-H conference at Iowa State University June 15 to 18. They join more than 1300 4-H members in sessions, recreation, multimedia presentations, and vocal and band concerts. Delegates include Sharn Anderson Yale Jana Richter Adair Sharon Calvert Guthrie Center Jana Elgin Adair LeRoy Greenlee Guthrie Center Ben Westcott Redfield Bob Wolf Yale and Jerry Peckumn Bayerd. Anderson and Peckumn will attend the pre conference session, lead county groups, and vote in state 4-H office elections. The group will choose an international focus area: changing lifestyles, government participation, differences, environment, famicom, and self understanding.

Bond Issue Fails as Guthrie Center Votes Next Six Months
A $1,300,000 Guthrie Center high school bond issue failed 55.5 to 44.5 amid heavy turnout. About 1,235 voters, 70 percent of district voters, cast ballots with 686 for and 549 against. The district faces debt of 275,000 retired in 1975 and possible future action after six months.

Two St Louis youths held on stolen car charge
Two St Louis youths arrested near Menlo last week remain in Guthrie county jail charged with possessing a stolen vehicle.
